Cannot understand why everyone feels it's necessary to rid Sabres of Risto and/or Girgensons....to me they're doing good job

Part of me wonders why they didn't take Tarasenko, Johansen, Skinner, Price and try to do what Vegas did and establish a winning team first.

They seem to be all-in on the tank.

Hockey has already failed there, I don't know if this is what's best for the team.

Sure Skinner, Price, etc... bad contracts, however, a change of scenery, a fired-up fanbase, and a fresh culture could have done wonders for the 3 I just mentioned.

Not to mention, they will have buyouts. They aren't even close to the cap floor right now.

Bizarre.
.

Hockey has already failed in Seattle? Because the Metropolitans folded 97 years ago? Where do you come up with this stuff?

So many misinformed people out there confused about Seattle's cap. Seattle is already over $53M when you factor in contracts to Larsson and Oleksiak. That also doesn't include Vince Dunn who is an RFA and needs a new contract.

That also doesn't include additional free agents that they will be signing. They are pretty weak at center. I could see Ronnee Frances adding some veteran help just to provide some stability. Maybe a guy like Derek Stepan, Travis Zajac, Paul Stastny, Nick Bonino. Obviously not all of them, but 1 or 2 guys like that on 1-2 year deals for stability. So that brings the cap higher.

It's also pretty obvious that they have a surplus of NHL d-men and will likely trade a few bodies to add more quality up front. So expect to see some activity there.

Why isn't the media asking about Detroit. Currently just 9 NHL contracts for $37M. Even if they sign their 8 or 9 RFAs they still barely crack $50M and need a number of new bodies just to field a full roster.

I’ll answer this one about Detroit, no one is asking questions cause their gm, while an ex player has proven to be good at his job and is getting Detroit better so that they can possibly be as good as the defending back to back Stanley Cup champions.
Meanwhile Seattle has an ex player running the show, that has showed in his previous spot that he has built an irrelevant lost in the shuffle team, and is turning his new team that has a once in a lifetime chance to build something like their Vegas sibling a solid exciting team into a irrelevant team yet again.

I'm confident Yzerman will use his cap flexibility wisely too. Just saying the media hasn't mentioned this once, but is instead just focussed on Seattle. Francis did pretty well overall. He didn't take the bait on any of the awful contracts. He got a trio of young goalies with potential. The defense is solid. He has a number of pending UFAs that can easily be flipped this week, or at the deadline for more picks. It's clear he's not looking to compete today, but likely has a 4-5 year plan to stockpile talent.

Someone should go back to the blogs during the Vegas draft and see how many said they would have a playoff contending team, let alone a cup contender. All these people freaking out saying Seattle choked because their lineup doesn't look as competitive as Vegas does now is a joke.

I feel Francis was far more interested in maintaining relationships with other teams than building a strong roster. Maybe it will work out. It's a questionable roster at best...

ESPN IS GONNA BE BAD FOR HOCKEY

Hit the nail on the head if they can't get the broadcast quality figured out. Someone must have been using their S3 for the video...

Wondered if it was something on my end with the TV or DirecTV feed - appears not per the comments out here. I wasn't looking forward to ESPN becoming involved with hockey again for a multitude of reasons - but broadcast quality wasn't one of those reasons.

BAD Draft by Seattle.

Some good Dmen and GOaloes are OK ,. but forwards yuck... they will fight but not score goals. Kind if a 80s team.
