Thanks John. What's your take on the pic?

Why would they draft another guy that is going to Harvard? Worse than Russians.

Treliving should be fired this has Adam Fox all over it. This kid will never sign he’s going to Harvard. They should’ve traded the (frank)ing pick.

Copy and pasted my comment from the last blog:

Preferred Lucius as he was a C and was projected top 5 to start the year and fell due to injury but cornanto could be a very good fit based on scouting reports.

Only concerns are that it appears he’ll be going to the ncaa a year late based on his birthday I question how much of this past seasons success was based on him being older than the competition. Also him being from New York and going to Harvard has given me Adam fox ptsd lol

I will add I will wait and see first though before I go full Eric Francis on the kid

Jg signed here. Only time will tell with Coronato.

If Fox would have signed here we would be in a much different position on the back end. Cannot really complain about Tre's drafting.

Plan A: Cole Sillinger
Plan B: Get Johnny Gaudreau to corrupt Coronato and make him drop out of school lol

This is what happens when Sutter wants to win every last meaningless game - it would have made a HUGE difference if we tanked. I'm guessing they wanted Sillinger. Seems like we used the full 5 minutes, and Treliving could have been more enthusiastic.

Fair enough, in spite of Todd button being the director of scouting since treliving has been hired our scouting has been a solid A in my books. I hope that if tre ever does get let go we keep the scouting staff that has been making these picks

You could see how excited Coronato was when they showed him on tv, he was thinking you got to be (frank)ing kidding me drafted by the (frank)ing Flames.

I had Lucius and sillinger as interchangeable but thought we had too many left shot left wingers to really want sillinger. A look at guys like goodrow, B tanev and others over the years size can be acquired through free agency and trade. It’s great when you can find a guy with size and skill but you don’t reach for a lesser skilled play just because he’s big.

Maybe we can get Cory stillman’s son chase tomorrow who claims to model his game after the tkachuck brothers

They finally drafted a RW. We should be happy. Kid has skills.

I agree, like I said before he is an older player in the USHL for a draft elidgable so I’ll curious to see how his freshman year stack up against previous top players sophomore years as I don’t know enough about the USHL to make of the jump in points between last year and this year.

I think there's debate around why couldn't Treliving trade our 1st for Garland. Coronato seems to be comparable on the surface, but Garland would be available immediately and you don't risk him walking away as a college UFA. My guess is they were high on Sillinger, took the gamble.

It's great for his career, he should get excited once he figures out how long we've been looking for a legit RW.

Sounds like he may be an isles fan according to some comments congratulating him on Twitter. Nothing against them but considering Nassau doesn’t seem to have the allure that MSG/Manhattan does and the isles being in a less than vibrant location this may not be the mirror situation to Fox it seems

Finally got around to watching cornato’s 8 minute interview the team posted up. Answered every question as professionally as you would expect but throwing Francis at him 1st was cold. The guy pretty well straight up asked if he was going to play for the team and pretty much followed it up with “well Adam fox was drafted here, went to Harvard and left to New York so…”. Hopefully things work out with this kid but I give it till tomorrow max before Francis is trying to run this kid out of town.

Overall though I like him, sounds like he plays a lot larger than his size and numbers suggest. Apparently the Chicago announcers have given him the nickname the bison for crashing the net which is a good sign he’s not afraid to go to the dirty areas. You always want a high pick to be phenom but going off that interview and scouting reports he kind of sounds like Mangiapane with a bit more of a goal scorers touch which is something I’d be happy with.

To be realistic this draft is projected to be closer to the worst than the best of the past decade so using 2012 which is arguably the worst in the cap era a mid 1st like teravainen who is a solid top six winger seems like a solid expectation that we should hope for. Anything more than that we should be thankful.

Great comment redc. I'm optimistic about him, if he plays hard we shouldn't worry about him potentially clashing with Sutter, I wouldn't expect any comments from Coronato that you'd expect to hear from Baertschi and Laine - they interviewed him so that makes me comfortable with the pick.

I think he might have just been nervous when they announced his name. Seems like him and several other draftees rented a ballroom for a much needed and well thought out social event, I think most kids would be nervous or reserved in that environment.

#1 or #2 RW is his for the taking, and he could play with either Gaudreau/Lindholm, or Tkachuk/Monahan (as things stand right now). That's a great opportunity for a rookie. He's going to have to out work Mangiapane for #1, but it sounds like he's up to the task. Calgary's a great place for him to play, and maybe when the college season's over, they'll let him get in 7-8 games during the playoffs if we qualify?

Came here to say this. All doom and gloom and the pick is less than 12 hours old. Get a grip. We have to be the most pessimistic fan base in the NHL.

He said his goal is to play in the NHL and for the Calgary Flames. They interviewed him so there should be no surprises. We'll probably know in a year, at most two when they turn him pro.
