Penguins caught off guard — who wasn’t? — by Marc-André Fleury trade from Vegas. Sense I get is PIT is trying to assess situation and see what’s going on now with Chicago.

I am a little confused about backstabbing comment.

Fleury has an M-NTC where he submits 10 teams no trade list. If he was traded to Chicago, it means Chicago was not on the list. If Fleury wanted a comfort of not being traded, then he should have signed a full NTC.

Where is the backstabbing in this?

When you're the face of a franchise you don't just make a move like that without giving him a phone call first. The Penguins handled it as best as you can hope for when he was getting moved to Vegas, so Vegas knows what he went through with that. You at least talk to him and let him know what's going on.

Sure...it could have been handled differently, agree. But he knew for at least a year a team is trying to trade him.

It's more so the not notifying him. Trading a guy with a L-NTC to any team that's not on his list is fair game. Obviously feel bad for a player I personally like a lot going to a poop team that's also a poop organization to boot, but really that's business. But hearing it from social media sucks really hard and Vegas should have done a better job of informing the guy they selected as the face of their franchise that talks were progressing before the trade leaked. I mean, they signed Lehner to a big money contract last season. I'm sure Fleury had to know he was likely going to be shopped, so I don't really see why they wouldn't tell him a trade was imminent. Pisses him off if it falls through? Can't imagine it'd piss him off any more than when Lehner signed a year ago.

I skimmed Yohe and Rossi's joint piece on the Pens' plans heading into free agency. They said by clearing Tanev and McCann, Hextall opened enough cap to feel comfortable looking at hockey trades that bring roster players back for the remaining guys that are available, and that goalie remains the biggest target.

If Chicago decides they want Pettersson, Matheson, Zucker, or Jarry, this trade is a done deal. Personally, after losing McCann I don't think we can trade Zucker for anyone besides a direct replacement top 6 forward and come out ok, but I don't think it'll stop Hextall.

They also discussed an extension with him a week or two ago. This is also a day before he resubmits his 10 team list so a LOT of sneaky backhanded movements here on Vegas' side.

Spittin Dikklets saying Yandle is going to sign in Philly. I feel like Philly has no rhyme or reason. They're just trying some mish mash retool.

Not sure if this was talked about, but Boston didn't qualify Nick Ritchie, he kinda fits the bill as a long pants winger....

Yeah just saw that from Weekes. Flyers really missing a golden opportunity to not be worse than Pitt here.

Yeah, I like him for the Pens depending on cost. I would thought a Pettersson/Ritchie trade would have been mutually beneficial.

If they can shelter him on 3rd pair and have him run a pp unit it makes sense. Risto though was hysterically bad.

He's not a bad gamble for one year at $900K. Philly just seems to playing yahtzee right now.
