If it's a 2 year deal it's very very sneaky indeed since neither Murray or the Avs seem to be aware. |

The goaltending market has hardly dried up, The Dallas Stars currently have 4 netminders on there depth chart and any one of them would be an up grade for the Oilers. |

Curious how it is sneaky? Don’t understand the sneaky concept.
To me I would consider it a sneaky signing if they had they signed him during day one of FA when all the chaos was going on |

How dare anyone mock such a diligent reliable source! Don't you know he was the original reporter on over 80% of UFA day transactions? If you don't believe me, just check the cited source on his own website. |

Sakic is back to his sneaky ways. Signing guys for 2 years but only telling the NHL office its for 1 year. This is more sneaky than playing hardball with Grubauer so that he comes back begging for a contract, oops, now I have to blow Timmins + 1st + conditional 3rd for Kuemper. Super sneaky.
Also, I bet Fiala and Sanheim both sign deals prior to any arbitration hearing. Just like most of the other players who initiated the process on their end. Its nothing more than a negotiating tactic. |

My understanding is that both of these arbitrations were team initiated. Regardless, I agree that it’s likely both sign deals before the hearing.

Yes I know Fiala and Sanheim were team-initiated. Even Ek noted that. There were another 17 player-initiated arbitrations. Still just a negotiating tactic. Last year only 1 player was settled by an arbitrator.
For example, let's say Sanheim's agent keeps pushing for a long-term deal. The Flyers would like a short-term deal. Well then the Flyers are going to try and force him into arbitration where he gets awarded a 1-2 year deal. Maybe that threat forces Sanheim's agent to be more realistic about discussing a short-term deal. I'm not arguing which approach is best for Sanheim, I'm just giving you an example of why a team would force the issue, even though the ultimate objective is to sign before an actual hearing. Unfortunately most in the media don't see that nuance. |

I agree. It’s theater. Actually following through is something neither side wants. Imagine getting there and having to tell the player all about his shortcomings. The player/management relationship is pretty frayed after that.

Any update on sneaky Lou who is up to something sneaky but won't let any of his players talk. Maybe he signs Palmieri, Parise, Pelech, Tarasenko, and then trades them all for Eichjel. He has something sneaky going on. |

It would be sneaky if the Stars snuck Khudobin across the border to Edmonton and Edmonton snuck Koskinen across to the Isles. Then Lou could be really sneaky and send Johnny Boychuck off to Dallas.

I believe the rules have changed & once filing for arbitration there can be no further negotiations. The arbiter proceeds & then after there can be negotiations. |
