Yesterday there was a photo of him at the Moscow Airport on his way back home in Siberia.
Russo is saying they have an agreement on term and salary(5yrs/9M AAV) and are now working on the year to year structure of the deal. We’ll see.

Based on the very small sample size of Kaprizov's career so far and the fact that he wasn't real effective In the playoffs last season I like the term of 5 year's but the money has to be no more than 5.5 annually. |

Not really sure where you are getting that $5.5 mil Shady. Kaprizov has been considered basically the best hockey player in the world not in the NHL until last year. For those who say he hasn't proven anything...he led the Wild in scoring last year, even though it was his rookie year, was playing on a smaller rink (i.e., less room to make moves) and had Rask as his C for most of the season. He has stood out and above all other in all sorts of international play. Led the KHL (yeah, not the NHL, but also not as bad as you assume) in scoring for his last 2 season there (maybe it was only 1 season). And on top of all of that, he has everyone, INCLUDING YOU, talking about him.
Of course the Wild are going to overpay for Kaprizov, every top star is overpaid. But if this truly is a 5 year contract, that means Kirill has given up 2 seasons of (by the way the market is going) of making $13-15 mil a year. So he HAS to make up some of that in the earlier portion of the contract.
Look at it this way, taking all the teams that were in the playoffs last year. Now look at their #1 scorer. The average salary (removing the highest salary and lowest) comes out to slightly over $8 mil/yr. Now you add in the fact that the Wild are buying out 2 years of free agency, so that has to "up" the aav. I was hoping for something like 5 year @ $8.5, but it sounds like $9/yr is about right. Time to stop playing fake GM and think that every player has no clue about their market value in professional sports. |

And I don't understand the idea behind Kaprizov not being effective in the playoffs. Since Vegas KNEW he was their best scorer, they put their best defenders against Kaprizov. It's like, extremely simple coaching. It was a lack of scoring from the rest of the roster that doomed the Wild. |

Welcome to the Wild bandwagon then Rsh. The hopes here are that Bill Guerin has got a set 5-6 year plan to get the Wild in the realm of being an every year contender for the Cup. And yes, Marco Rossi is on his way to being on the roster. As it sits right now, there are 3 open roster spots, which look to probably be filled by Rossi, Matt Boldy and Calen Addison (C/RW/D). For the first time in a long, long time, the Wild are starting to bring up some young talent early enough to see if they will be part of a winning solution or just not have what it takes to be contenders. |

I'm hearing 5 years, around $9M per. We'll see what happens, but it sounds about right. I don't agree with it, but the Wild don't have an option but to pay the ransom and hope for the best. |

Well, the possible good thing to come out of this is that if by Year 3, Kaprizov is making the deal look like a steal! |

Can't be any worse than having to buy out Suter and Parise.
