Sad story for a sad day….I remember it so vividly although was no where near the danger. Sorry for your loss that day. It was such a senseless act and a surreal day that I will never ever forget.

I think I've expressed this before, but it bears repeating...
Jan, please don't ever feel the need to apologize for baring your soul through this medium. If someone feels offended by a touching story of obvious importance to the person who toils for us all year long... we've got your back!!
Peace to you on this weekend.

Thanks for sharing, Jan. Growing up just across the river in NJ, this is a very hard day for me, too. I was just in fourth grade, but every minute of the day is as vivid as can be.

I remember each classmate being pulled out of school, not one by one, but in droves (many of whom have parents who worked in one of the towers).

I remember sitting on the couch watching the news, with my closest friend at the time and his dad. His mom was in the north tower when the plane hit.

I remember the fear in the house as we huddled around a phone waiting to hear from her, which finally happened late at night. She had found shelter at a cafe just a few blocks from the wreckage. We were terrified that she didn’t make it.

I remember seeing the smoke the next morning and the ash that was showing up on front lawns.

Next time I’m walking through the memorial, I will stop at Victor’s spot and let him know he will never be forgotten. RIP Victor.

Outstanding blog, Jan. I'm sure it was cathartic to write. Mine was, too.

Although I was no where near the towers, Ill never forget where I was and what I saw. I was in the cafeteria at Kingsborough CC in between classes. I remember looking up and freezing at the sight of what was on TV. The most heart breaking part of it all was seeing a girl running down the hallway in tears screaming "my parents are in the towers". I didnt know who she was, but to this day I hope that her parents made it out of there.

Maybe not ‘pure hockey’ …but pure heart.

Thank you for sharing both.

Jan truly a heart felt post. So sorry for victor and many others who passed. Never forget but many have. For us New Yorkers we will ever forget. I was working in Hicksville and one of my employees sister in law was stuck in the building never to be found. Many firefighters and officers were from the Hicksville area. I would go outside to the roadside as the trucks were going by for these brave men and women for their funeral. It was heart wrenching and hard to hold back the tears? RIP all
