This trips up a lot of people and isn't terribly easy to explain. CapFriendly is amazing and everyone is used to their display of cap hits. It's more complex than that and the daily cap tracker is where the true complexity lies. The cap is a daily thing, whereas the main display shows it in annual terms.

Last season, Eichel cost roughly 86k per day. If you retain 30%, that goes down to 60k. Post deadline days x 60k is the bottom line here, but no one speaks in those numbers. Numbers will change a bit this season.

How much annualized cap space you need is a far different question. That's where deadline cap space comes into play. $ under the cap before the TDL increase that amount. If you've been at the cap all season, your annualized cap space = deadline cap space. You'd need 7m for Eichel. In all likelihood, you've accumulated some space during the season, so you need 7m of deadline cap space and less annualized cap space (and just enough real cap space).

Short answer, it's complicated and the easiest answer is 7m of deadline cap space.

Appreciate the explanation 👍

I dont think Cozens will ever have an 80 point season.

2003-2008 Jochen Hecht is what I would currently say. High 40s, low 50s production. Faster, obviously, and more fighting.

More points if he's a RW

doing a quick once-over on goalies in their mid to upper-20's right now

--1 hit the nhl full time at age 21: Carter Hart (PHI)
--4 hit the nhl full time at age 22: Mackenzie Blackwood (NJD), Ilya Samsonov (WSH), Matt Murray for PIT (now with OTT), Andrei Vasilevsky (TBL)

Those who were full-time at age 23

Thatcher Demko (VAN, 27gms)
Connor Hellebuyck (WPG, 56)
Alexander Georgiev (NYR, 34)

the success rate for each of these goalies varies, but most of the very successful ones played for good/great teams

- Michael Pachla

Another excellent post 👍

Losing ullmark definitely put the Sabres a couple years ahead of needing a starting goalie.

This has become situational in goal. Not neccesarily the best solution, but the goalie pool shrunk...

I think the issue with this is it doesn't quantify the misses. There were 2 for sure, but I counted 3, TDs missed. The one to Sanders early could've iced that game 17-0.

The loss isn't on Allen, I get that. I think Levi would be my dunce if I had to pick one. But we need better from the quarter bajillion dollar man all the same.

- TheSabresTaco

Still waiting on the devil's roster too

Foote and holtz and mercer are the only devil's I can think of that would be going

Sabres actually just released it a couple hours ago. Gotta think the devils follow suit.

As most married men will attest to, wives have plenty of say. If I'm not mistaken, Pronger's wife wanted out of Edmonton.
- Michael Pachla

I believe it was Pronger's wife wanted Pronger out of Edmonton, as he had gotten too cozy with a local weather girl. Pronger never going on record as to say why he requested out didn't help his cause (or these roomers) any.

If you carry 3, it's usually because you have injury or waiver problems. In the Sabre's case, UPL is exempt and everyone else would clear.
- Lunaion

Sure, but it isn’t always the case. Ott did it a while ago (i know they would have had to send someone like the hamburgler down and he woulda been claimed). I think the position players can be moved around paper transaction style if need be to carry a third, if quick is the guy the kings want to send back for salary purposes.

Um, guy's rarely sign in buffalo, unless they are overpaid, grew up nearby or both (irrelevant skimmer)
Last stop cafe....

It's only gets worse which each failed experience and losing season that passes.

Surely Staal and hall will not be giving friends their blessing on Buffalo.

Do you guys really like leaving a good franchise in a warm climate on a decent team to join a team destined to lose? Just to teach the youngsters..... or for grandparents babysitting the kids ....

Who wants to finish a solid career ...
. In buffalo..

Show up and be a positive influence.
🙄

I mean, point taken. There’s also an ego factor here. After everything he did for the franchise (basically won them both their cups) and they’re willing to trade me? Possible like you say he doesn’t want Buffalo but the slight of that might want him out of LA. And unfortunately for him, he does not have a say in where his rights are traded to.

Completely agree. I'm sure quick would love to retire a 2 time Stanley cup champion la king.

I'm a buffalo guy, moved away for a few years. Married a buffalo girl. Back in buffalo for years now.

Love the area, but it's home. Beautiful 3-4 months of summer - late fall.

Realistically though, young , wealthy guys are choosing elsewhere. Unless it involves money or family.

I graduated from college in 2004 with an engineering degree got a hand shack job offer from company I was interning with in Buffalo. Went to three interviews with companies in Indianapolis got three offers for about 50% more. Moved married a Hoosier and will never move back. But I have nothing against the area.

That's really cool. I'd kinda go where the money is, if it's close it's a bit different.

I'm proud to be from buffalo.

How many cities have 2 top professional teams....

And the Sabres too 😀
