good stuff, Allison seems to bring more than just hockey to the team, he and Hayes should keep this team light. One day closer...

I don’t really pay attention to other clubs’ prospects, but over the last few summers you really notice our prospects seem to be a tight knit group. And Wade Allison seems to always be in the center of it all or the lead guy. Seems fellow prospects gravitate towards him. Love to see it. Excited to see these young guys make their mark in the next coming seasons.

Not Bill, but Ill chime in.

I dont think it is a definite, but I do think it is a good idea after him not having played for so long.

But Frost only weighs 170, he's not ready...

Bill, what would it take financially for Frost and York to make the Flyers (out of camp or later in the season)?
Is there enough cap space or would someone need to be released or traded?

Really concerned with AV's history regarding younger players.

Not a lock but the numbers game works against him. He'd either have to have a spectacular camp or there'd have to be an injury in the top 9.

Considering how many young players he has played in his time here, I think that is overblown.

He also played young players in Vancouver and (despite complaints to the contrary), in New York. Have lost count of the times he's said, "Talent doesn't have an age."

That said, does he have a preference for vets, things overwise being comparable? Yes but so do most coaches. If Joel Quenneville were here, there'd be the same complaint.

Bill what are your thoughts on the GM saying a young player has to dramatically outplay a vet?

IMO if he outplays said vet then he should earn that spot. Why does it have to be "dramatically" as you should want to ice your best possible team.

Did young players progress under his watch on those teams? Or did they stagnate and or regress? Off the top of my had I have no idea either way just curious without having to look

It certainly appears that way. As big of a fan I am of Frost, it's a good idea for him to start the season in the AHL.

Considering Frost made the team last year... it’s not AVs fault the kid got hurt.

Depends on the player. But in Vancouver, Ryan Kesler came into his own under AV after struggling a bit under Marc Crawford. They they got a lot out of Alexander Edler and Mason Raymond in their early 20s under AV. With the Rangers, Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh broke out under AV while still young players. AV gave a lot of tough love coaching to a young and initially resistant Kevin Hayes but now Hayes will readily tell you it was the best thing for his career.

Other guys didn't thrive. But the whole "AV is bad for/ doesn't play" young players gets overblown.

It’s really up to the player, saying a guys progression was due to the coach is a little far fetched. If anything it’s more on the organization, when they see a guy is ready, usually with top picks . Puillarvi in Edmonton comes to mind. Nolan Patrick? Maybe a similar situation

Talk about a one-sided trade: Mika Zibanejad traded to NY Rangers by Ottawa with Ottawa's 2nd round pick in 2018 NHL Draft for Derick Brassard and NY Rangers' 7th round pick in 2018 NHL Draft, July 18, 2016. Even up it was lopsided, but they had to include a high pick too.

The point is that AV hasn't serially "held back" young players. Ultimately, any player will rise or fall on his own merits.

Presuming Hayes is the same person after what he just went through with this brother.

Just look at this Flyers team since AV has been here. Farabee has progressed so far. Sanheim just got a hefty raise, so did Carter Hart. AV certainly was not holding Hart back by not playing him. Look, a coaches job is to put the team in the best position to win games, and part of that is playing the best players you have in the right spots and situations. If a player can handle it, he will play, otherwise he won't. I think AV wants to win a cup badly and will play anyone, no matter what age, he believes will help him get it.
