Nikita Gusev is clearly worth the gamble: zero defensive awareness, smallish, is a puck turnover machine (not in the good way), and looked like poop last season.

If Mitch was making 9M I'd be only slightly less annoyed by his utter lack of playoff effectiveness.

You can at least admit that it isn't "crazy" or "ignorant" to be critical of Mitch's play. He's the highest paid RW in hockey and he has been absolutely lost the past 3 playoff series he's been in.

He's paid like a player who should be able to dominate regardless of the time of year. He hasn't and it's totally fair to be critical about his (lack of) performance.

As I've mentioned before, I'm cautiously wildly pessimistic about this coming season. I'm not on suicide watch and you can rest assured I will hardly lose any sleep after the Leafs impending 1st round exit this coming post-season.

Personally, I like the Gusev PTO. He's got skill for days. I think if he plays with good players, he could shine.

Don't know if it'll get past the tryout phase, but I'm more than good with giving him an opportunity.

I thought Matthews was a beast in the playoffs but he had no help whatsoever. Then without Tavares and losing Muzzin it was a perfect storm.

I do think the Leaf fan negative obsession with Marner is over-the-top and there are more reasons to be excited about he and the Leafs this season.

Matthews shot was lacking a little because of his wrist issues. I expect a big playoff year for him and the team.
