Carol Schram: Conor Garland bags the game winner as the Canucks spoil Seattle's party A come-from-behind win over the Seattle Kraken gave the Vancouver Canucks a solid seven points off their season-opening six-game road trip, and quite a few positives to build off as they settle back in for seven games in front of full-capacity crowds at Rogers Arena.

Well done Carol!

I'd give Petey time, but he could have easily gotten a contract done (same with Hughes) before training camp done if he really wanted to, so that excuse holds no water with me. He's supposed to be the franchise center and wants to be paid like it, so therefore it's on him to produce like one and he's not. You can certainly blame Green for his deployment, not having Boeser on his wing (although great players score no matter who is there, see McDavid before Drisaitl got there and Crosby when he first started) and his injuries, but he is responsible for his own play and it has not been up to par.

If this was two years or even last year, I'd be much more patient, but he's supposed to be our main scoring threat, not Miller and not (although I'm super surprised and pleased with) Garland. At least Hughes is producing at his normal level after a bad first game.

Thanks Carol!

Just saw this from Sat Shah on twitter:

Quinn Hughes had the puck on his stick for 2:44 mins, double that of the next closest player in the entire game which was Pettersson.

Certainly too early to panic on the star players.

Want to be paid big boy money? Then start playing big boy hockey. First thing Petey should do is hit the gym. He’s getting outmuscled for every puck. Second, work on his face offs. Can’t create offence if you’re chasing the puck after every draw. Third, just shoot the damn puck.

No, no it's not, if you are wanting to be the star or franchise player then you produce or at LEAST make something happen every time you're in the ice (and in a good way at that). Sure, it's only 6 games in, but he's regressed since his rookie season when he looked like he could be MacKinnon-lite, that's concerning. It's why I would love for next year for the team to go after Bedard and do whatever it takes to get him and build around him. Think of how good the Canucks would be with Bedard as 1C, Petey as 2C and Horvat 3C.

I'm guessing there will be a number of Garland jerseys in the crowd and that number should grow as the season progresses. But personally I'm waiting for the "Angry little elf" tshirts.

You do realize how massively unrealistic this is right? The amount of panic over Petey is hilarious to me. He's not a 2C, he is a top line player. Have a little patience.

Can’t believe they won that game, they were outplayed for 80% of it. I actually switched away from it…oh well, good on them.

You do realize that this isn't just these 6 games? He's regressed since his rookie season and that's really concerning when you expect the team to make the playoffs and do some damage in them. You can blame injuries and deployment and any other excuse you want but he's supposed to be the franchise player and he's not playing like one.

What are the dimensions of your domesday bunker? What Nick Cage movies will you be watching once inside?

So I’m trying to understand your plan…which I’m sure is brilliant and well thought out. You want to tank aggressively to draft Bedard. This will involve gutting the roster. You also blame Benning and Green for the teams poor play but part of your plan is to fire them? If they are responsible for the losing wouldn’t it benefit your plan to keep Green. I guess I’m a bit confused with your plan. Also, how do we ensure we win the lottery? Do we need to finish bottom 10 or bottom 3 for your plan to work?

I know it's not realistic, it's part sarcasm/part extreme wishful thinking, it also doesn't change the fact that this team has more holes and warts than most and if the overall "plan" or goal is to win the Stanley Cup before this core ages out then something needs to be done.

Like I've said in the preseason, I think we hang around the playoff bubble until after Christmas, drop after a slump in which Green gets fired and rebound then crater by the Olympic break and JB gets fired before the season ends. We get a new management and coaching staff and we try again next year maybe with major changes to the roster.

I think we make the playoffs and neither are fired. We shall see.
