I have been watching the flames a long long time, more than 20 years; the flames always have cold starts terrible oct and nov it’s there way BUT seasons it’s not that way they make it to the cup. Win or lose, I’m really beginning to wonder now. Gfg

That classy move by Looch shows just how much these guys care about each other. I think it’s safe to say, Sutter has fixed the room.

Flames look legit. Really happy the Rangers don’t play you guys again

What’s up with the 5 OT losses? Surprised by that stat. OT losses or shootout?

Not sure you watched the game but they interviewed Looch between periods and he said the same. Sutter demands effort, the guys work hard but for each other. You see it in the balanced 4-line approach Sutter has put in place.

The Fan guys were asking who they saw as the best team in Canada right now. Was an interesting discussion. I'd rank it:
Toronto
Calgary
Edmonton
Winnipeg
The others...
Toronto just needs a bit more upside on defense. Calgary just can't maintain this pace but its balanced scoring and sound defensively. Edmonton is well, two guys and the supporting cast. Goaltending... Winnipeg is probably the most well rounded just finding their way...

Lucic also said he felt appreciated when the Oilers asked for his time for an interview "when he was on the market" before be was on the market and that was a reason he signed there (sure it wasn't the contract being bigger and further than others could go).

And please don't use the fan guys for anything. Listen to their call in after a game. It sounds like listening to the guys from Fubar having a discussion. The dumber the caller, the dumber they get. And them talking mid day isn't a lot better. It's like a newfie-cast at times. They force their "eh's" in there like an American trying to make fun of a Canadian.

I watched but didn’t see the interview. Pleasantly surprised that the Wifi in the trailer park is so good. Have decided to stay til Sunday so I can watch the Jets game.
No doubt the Flames will falter eventually but it’s a lot of fun right now.

As for ranking Canadian teams ATM,
Calgary has the best team game and defense going right now.
Edmonton has the most top heavy offense.
Toronto has the highest offensive upside, but really lack a complete team.
Winnipeg has the most complete team.
Ottawa and Montreal are far behind the others currently. Ottawa with the most upside to come, Montreal with the best individual goalie, rest of their team won't usually compete.

I assume the poll didn't come with a definition of "team".

Forgot to include the “potential addition” section. Added it on just now in the blog. Today’s player is Alex Edler. Full explanation at the bottom of the article.

The Flames have almost always played down to their opponent, gassing what should be winable games (see 2020 season versus Ottawa).
They also seem to be too soft at home sometimes-- looking to thrill the fans with an extra or a fancy pass instead of what they can usually do on the road; i.e. make the safe play.

If they can make the Saddledome a "feared" place to play for the opponents-- something I haven't seen since the late '80s-- then they would be able to wrap up the division well before the playoffs start.

Also: Sean Monahan is having the worst luck these days. He's trying. He knows how to put the puck in the net but he can't get back to the spots where he used to be when he did that with consistency.
He also can't get past his own poor passing (trying to thread passes through people) or trying to beat defensemen one-on-one.
I think I'd bench him for a couple of games. Reinforce the whole "team comes first" mantra, and possibly give him some recovery time that he himself seems unwilling to take.

Maybe a different perspective of who would you not want to play against if the playoffs started today? In that case:

So on another note, Tkachuk likes to get in the face of other players. Targeting Doughty and Kassian to name a few. My buddy suggested that maybe his next target should be Draisitle, big, talented, but I’ve never seen him drop the mitts. Not sure how it would end but I could see it being effective.
What do you guys think?

Quote won’t work but Tkachuk did go after Draisaitl a couple years ago when the kassian/Tkachuk stuff first happened. That’s when I noticed how dirty Draisaitl actually plays. Reminds me of the crap that Chelios used to do. Mouthing off and slashing when the refs aren’t watching just for the refs to turn and see the retaliation.
You can add Yamamoto to that style of play now too.
