Columbus is hard to figure out. I thought there window was "Closed, but opening" when it might be "Opening, but not Closing". I would probably add a new sub factor called "Open, but kinda dirty so you can't see out very well right now but planning to wash pretty soon".

11. The Blue Jackets are playing .625 hockey. They could be in a playoff spot on Thanksgiving. You know what that means.

Columbus needs to call Andersen and get some new windows because the ones they currently have sound like absolute poop

Islanders are nothing more than a victim of rule enforcements. Low talent clutch and grab team.

This thing about being in the playoffs at Thanksgiving isn't actually statistically relevant. Sure. Teams like Florida, Tampa, Toronto, Carolina, Edmonton are in great shape. But that was also predicted before the season even started. A bubble team like Columbus or Nashville or Anaheim who might be in a spot based on a single point at Thanksgiving is meaningless. Statistically, a significant amount of teams who are in by 1-2 points at Thanksgiving end up missing. It's arbitrary and meaningless. But the media keep repeating it each year.

No mention that the islanders are missing almost half of their starting lineup due to covid and injuries?

Since the cap era started 77% of teams in playoff position on thanksgiving night make the playoffs. So not entirely irrelevant. Every year some teams surge and make it but statistically 12 of the 16 teams in a playoff spot tomorrow will make the playoffs.

That's my point. 12 of 16 is just 75%. Take away the teams with larger cushions like Florida, Tampa, Toronto, Carolina, Washington, Edmonton (ie the teams nobody doubted from the beggining). So just look at say the 8 teams that are in by 1-2 points. On average, half of them will make it and half will miss. So it's about as predictive as tossing a coin. A more useful benchmark might be...if you are in a playoff spot by more than X points, then you have a 95% chance to make it. But saying if you are in by 1 point, you have a 50% shot is pretty useless.

Can't believe the Leafs still have a good record even though they aren't in the North division. Or that four of the teams from the North division are doing really well. I guess the entire league sucks this year.

Especially the Canadiens, the North "winners" from last year....

You do realize that teams change every year?? No you don’t. The North was completely pathetic last year.

Who expected the Islanders to be good? The old bag gave away key players and replaced them with old nonsense

Yes.

Calgary is miles better. Edmonton has had an easy schedule to start. Toronto is actually focusing on 200 ft play. Winnipeg is similar to last year but PLD is having a great start.

Amazing what happens when teams change personnel or how they change their systems isn’t it?

I guess according to you Anaheim, LA and Columbus were just in tough divisions last year and haven’t progressed either? And the Islanders, Habs and Canucks are only struggling so badly because they had easy competition last year and now are facing tougher teams??

It’s a new season and teams are all playing differently. Take your head out of your ass FFS.

In actual fact, the North was always no worse or better than any of the other divisions, and the results this season have debunked that narrative.
