Thanks Trevor.
Not just Dube that needs to pick it up, Backlund, Pitlick, Richie, Lewis, Monahan, the list goes on. Sutter staying loyal but for how long? His recent interview where he states it’s a huge difference between AHL and NHL makes me think he’s going to ride this out til Treliving gives him better options. Don’t expect help from the Heat. |

On another note Duran suggested Monahans problems may have something to do with pain killer abuse. How big of a problem is this in the nhl? |

He’s taken a lot of beatings and has had a lot of injury issues. Not surprising. I’d guess at least half the league is on some kind of painkillers at different points throughout the season. |

It’s pretty serious if Robin Lehner’s claims are accurate.

Reading Fleury’s autobiography was pretty wild. He “froze” his knee every game for years.
Monahan has been playing through injury to finish so many seasons now. Many of those instances were when the Flames only had an outside chance at making the playoffs. The organization needs to take better care of their stars— shut them down far earlier. |

That's a much bigger sports issue than just this organization. We as fans have expectations, we pay a big part of the bill. That translates into expectations of ownership and so on. Not disagreeing in any way but your ask is much more than the Flames pushing for more. Its also what Monahan says to the team about his level of pain and ability to play. How many times have we on here said, he's just in a slump?

2 year slump - K-man25
2 years of playing injured... meh, he's the only one who can say what kinda pain he was in. Either that or he peaked early. |

Nah I think he’s just broken and will never get back to where he was. It happens to some. |

I’m starting to feel this way, it’s too bad. Combined with trading 4th oa Sam Bennett, giving up the picks for Hamonic which turned into Dobson, Valimaki stuttering, what’s that leave 6th oa Tkachuk, Pelletier, Zary, Cornatto that’s not guaranteed to sign as our first round selections since Tre took over?
Flames have never figured out how to lose bad enough to reap a 1st or 2nd overall pick. We’ve been a mediocre to good but not great team with the exception of finishing 1st in the west the one year. I’m sure Brad is feeling the heat. |

How the hell do Demko and Gibson get the All-Star nod over Markstrom? I get the rosters are small and only one team besides the Oilers get two players, but it would've made a lot more sense to go with Markstrom and Hughes instead of Demko and Gaudreau, especially since they only picked one defenceman. Markstrom's been far and away the best goalie in the West this year and was damn near at an MVP level before the recent mini-slump.
I suppose it's somewhat good news since the 3 on 3 format is just asking for a goalie to hurt themselves. Still, where's the respect? |

I think it is a blessing in disguise, like you said why would you want your #1 goalie to get injurued in a all star game which is only played because the sponsors the NHL has backing it up.

You certainly called it. Outstanding blog though. Well done.....
Just like a certain team.
Is it possible that the Sutter era's ending already - almost before it starts? |

My theory is that the Oilers are free falling with such velocity that we’re actually experiencing a halo effect 300km away. |

No the Flames just flat out suck at home, they play down to teams they should beat. But I'm happy I won some good $$$$$$ tonight.

I turned that garbage off last night during the second period. It has been a wierd month of hockey/non hockey for this team.
But seems like Mangepiane and Markstrom have returned to reality. |

Mang, for sure other than the one rush. Markstrom, I'm not to worried about.
I was at the game, what a weird atmosphere. No food, drinks (including water), there were 4 kids (late teens) kicked out for not wearing their masks "properly", was loader at my kids U-18 game. I guess somethings better than nothing but that was a super poopty vibe.

Markstrom's still playing great, but the defence is no longer rock solid. I also don't think Dube is very good. At least he tries hard, but he reminds me of the Calgary version of Paul Byron.
They really need to consider splitting up the top line. None of the other lines do anything positive anymore. I think something like Gaudreau, Backlund, Mangiapane could work. |

Your entire franchise.... Consideration for Evander Kane reeks of outright desperation... You're really not very good at this! |
