I'll state the obvious. Lane Lambert probably went to Lou and said...Listen, Yzerman just fired Blashill. It's no secret that Stevie and I are close. Pretty good chance that the Wings job is mine if I want it. I'm not making a threat here Lou, but just being honest that I'm interested in becoming a head coach soon. I like NYI, but look what happened here. Trotz is a good man, but the room has already grown tired and most guys regressed. Do you want to lose us both Lou? Or maybe let him go, let the dust settle, and give me a shot.
Too bad there isn't an insider talking to players, coaches, GMs, and owners to confirm any of this...

+ You know the part where Lou said it was his decision entirely and he had no input from anyone else? Well he just finished doing exit interviews and there's a wee bit of a chance he may have been stretching the truth there. Barzal's contract is coming up in a year and he probably doesn't want to lose him.

Barzal did not seem happy at all. Barry is a wonderful coach but his style is very difficult over the long haul. Tough to try winning game 1-0 and 2-1. Barry likes a veteran type team and young forwards seem to have a tough time with this system.

NJ fans will love seeing Jack Hughes dump the puck into the O-zone after crossing the red line and then settling into a defensive posture to engage the trap at the offensive blue line.

Good point. I'm sure Barzal voiced his frustration too. He's seeing guys all over the league hitting 80-90-100 points and he's on 59 points. Is it worth losing Lambert and Barzal just to keep Trotz for another year. What say you Ek?

Not saying Barzal likes Trotz, but Barzal has the freedom to do whatever he wants. He is not required to dump it in. It’s just simply incorrect to state otherwise.
