Bill - In yesterday's blog you mentioned the Flyers interviewed 8 candidates for head coach. Could you tell us who was interviewed besides Tortorella and Trotz?

Believe it was:

Tortorella
Trotz
DeBoer
Capuano
Tocchet
Vellucci
Muller

Not sure who the other was. Don't believe Monty got an interview. Heard Davis Payne's name out there early on (also he's another former PBI Sports client along with Torts, Capuano and Vellucci) but nothing thereafter.

Wasn’t Blashill one of them?

Why Capuano?

They wouldn't meet my demands though. I told them I wanted you to run the PP as my assistant. They said no way in hell

Haha, I think they are missing out. We couldn’t do worse than they have the last two years anyways.

I know it was reported they talked to Blashill and to Cassidy. Not clear if either was interviewed in person.

Why Capuano? I don't know. But it didn't hurt his candidacy that Neil Glasberg, who runs the consulting agency that assisted in organizing the coach search, is the former agent for Capuano (also for Torts, Vellucci and Muller) through his PBI Sports representation business.

Wtf.... so the Flyers basically turned the process over to a guy who pushed his own former client list? JFC, that's the most Flyerest thing ever.

Too bad. Would’ve been a good gig for you both.

Nice of you to stick your neck out for him.

Tell the rest of the story. They insisted you take on Yeo as an assistant. You carpet bombed them with frank bombs so much that Homer blushed, then you walked out.

The Flyers spoke to more than 8 candidates but eight came to Voorhees/Philly for in-person interviews. Then then finally four did second interviews.

I'm sorry but I'm calling BS to this entire facade. If you are Fletcher and your job is on the line this offseason, are you really going to turn the team over to Capuano or Muller? Please. These other names were nothing more than fodder in this entire process. It was Trotz all the way with Torts as a backup. I still think the guy to hire was Cassidy but oh well.

For those repelled by a TALENT AGENCY being used... Why?
Are you saying that Torts doesn't qualify as a quality candidate?
That they would also offer up their other clients is just being a responsible business.
Complaints are groundless in this situation. There is nothing wrong about seeking outside assistance. Or are you saying you wanted a repeat of the previous hiring?
