Can't have anything to do with the fact that he's playing on an offensive juggernaut. He went 57 games without any goals 3 years back. Granted, someone will pay him, but I don't expect this to be his new norm.

A player puts a single career year together a decade in to his NHL career, while playing shotgun to the most prolific offensive team in decades….what could go wrong signing him to a long expensive deal?!? Haha!

No thank you….pass.

Good player, should be a 20 goal scorer for the next few years but he’ll be paid as if he’s more than that which will be a big mistake.

I’m not so sure, he’s worked on his game considerably. He looks dominant this season.
Had tons of potential when in Dallas. Just took a few years to put it all together. Let’s not forget he played with Seguin and Benn too. He fit in nicely with them as well. Someone will definitely pay him.

This is how bad contracts are born.

He’ll take a discount to stay in Denver. Likes the team and the city.

Their most important playoff scorer? Seriously why do you do this? How can anyone take this stuff even remotely serious?

lets hope they find a way to get everyone signed and back for next season, mckinnon will he become the next greedy player and go for 10+ ?? no team has made a cup final with a 10 mil player, will it continue in the future? lets hope big mac will take a bit less to keep this juggernaut in tact//

Before I get too critical I realize that for many people this is the first time they've watched Nichuskin for more than a few games.

First, the Avs value him more for his defensive play than his offense. So good job recapping his point totals, but his 2-way play is the real appeal.

Second, Nichuskin had a miserable experience in Dallas. He's found a comfortable niche with the Avs, surrounded by talent, about to win a Cup. He will almost certainly re-sign with the Avs and take a discount, because he knows the next experience might be as bad as Dallas. If you knew the player you would know how much this will influence him. Zero chance he leaves town.

Good blog though.

Bold take. I don't think anyone else has noticed this Nitchhoosin fella yet, but you swoop in with the scoop!

Nichushkin had a serious groin/hip injury in his 2nd nhl season that required surgery. It took him a long time to rebuild his strength and confidence. The talent has always been there, no question. It’s unlikely he’s simply having a fluke season, but I’d want to know how likely it is that the injury becomes recurring or degenerative.

Free agency day and recency bias are a terrible pairing. He is a great story but hopefully NJ pisses away their cap space elsewhere. Ask Toronto how they feel about that David Clarkson contract after his one monster season in NJ.

I think I’d rather Kane personally. I know there’s maybe a couple red flags but he’s definitely the best goal scorer of this year’s ufa. Both will probably get around the same contract and there’s a good chance both contracts end up bad ones imho

Dallas in 2019 was bottom 3 in the league in goal scoring despite being playoff team. If you can't judge his offense on an offensive powerhouse then why judge his offense on a defensive team 3 years ago? Look at Duchene and Forsberg's seasons now that they're not on a defensive powerhouse.

Tonight we get a look at another Habs blue chipper, WHL playoff MVP and Canada's World Juniors Captain Guhle. Hard not to be hyped for a player like that.

Just you wait, the next CBA will end the cap era. Seems like every one is now worth $5m/per season because they have 1 good year.

His defense and his relentless, otherworldly, bull-in-a-China-shop forechecking. I've been trying to tell everyone here for the last year how much the Avs value Nichushkin, especially when it was suggested that they might go the 8 skaters route in expansion protection. It's apparent what he means to that team when he's out of the lineup and if you need any more evidence of their regard for him note how much they gave up for a smaller version in the trade for Artturi Lehkonen (who Sakic coveted for two years). It'll be genuinely shocking if the Avs don't re-sign him. They've loved the guy for the past 3 seasons.

The Avs will re-sign

Nichushkin
Kuemper
Manson

will at least QO but probably extend Lehkonen and very likely extend MacKinnon within a week of being allowed to do so.

Sadly Kadri and Burakovsky will walk. Newhook will take Kadri's spot and Olausson will take Burakovsky's. Ben Meyers will take over 3C from Newhook.

No, just seems odd that you'd post random Habs stuff in a blog about a soon-to-be overpaid UFA.
