This much I believe is true: it took guts to move on from major decisions whilst Bowman was here.

And it is going to be gutsy the movement forthcoming with JD now at the helm

Boqvist was a big time talent but it takes more than just some very good offensive skill set to play defence adequately in the NHL. He was lacking in some areas and it is recognition that Boqvust was not going to become the #1 dman. The fact was that we needed a different type dman to match up against the big boys.

S Jones is not exactly the correct response but he does step in and fits better.

Now I have no idea whether KD can overhaul a roster and bring in the correct type of players we need.
Sure, he will continue to add draft choices, to what extent is difficult to say

A prudent move I bet KD will do is to not trade a top player unless he gets a very good exchange. This is not just due to the outcome from the Hagel trade; this is more just because KD needs to come out ahead or just not make a trade for the time being.

What I wish will be true is that KD does let Kubalik and Strome go. Of course he has to replace them with better option. What players are involved - who could even guess. But obviously there are games where fast skating teams and the players Strome goes against leave him behind like the tortoise and the hare. Kubalik is also a non factor if someone isn't getting him the puck so that he can score. Kubalik leaves much to be desired all around.

There are some nice young talent coming along and that is encouraging. But the absence of more than but a couple top players right now is a problem

It just seems a lot of new young guys filter in, maybe add a couple of veterans while all these draft choices develop elsewhere for at least one year and perhaps two or more years until they are skating for us in the NHL

A new coach is helpful but my gosh what kind of talent is he going to be working with initially

I get the impression that drafting will be different under KD, He might have wanted to draft Noah Dobson and B Byram instead of Adam B and Kirby D? In interviews he seems to say he wasn't in agreement on a lot with Stan. Still have to give him 2 or 3 drafts to really see what type of players he is bringing in. I don't have a problem with a complete tear down!

this is going to be Crazy time between now, bteween july 1-13th Buyout, draft, QO and Free agency. I think 70/30 Cat is traded before the 13th, Kane 30/70, Teows 20/80 but 50/50 he is moved before the start of the season. Kubalik does not get traded or get a QO. Strome does get traded 70/30 and or gets a QO, C jones gets a QO and 2 of Mcabb, murph, stilman, Beudin get traded. keith does not retire. none of our goalies are resigned we take a bad vet goalie contract with a asset. we do not buy out anyone. we take on 1 solid 1 year UFA (something like pandy) or 1 year larger contract to flip with retention at the deadline.

There's definitely some internet buzz attaching Kane with the Sabres. One of which was "The Windy City" something r other" offering 3 trade proposals. Two of them were dream proposals in my estimate with the likes of Cozens on one and Jack Quinn on the other (along with a couple 1st rd picks).

This reminds me of 07'ish when the Sabres were talking Seabrook and the Chicago fanbase wanted zero to do with him leaving for anyone. There's a similar feeling with the young and somewhat unproven youth the Sabres currently have. That and Kane being in the final year of his contract.

The 3rd proposal was Olofson, Middlestadt, our 16th and 28th pick. That's a lot to ask for still in my opinion for a player who turns 34 this year with 1 remaining year on his contract. I say this because Buffalo got Tuch with 5yrs at 4.7, Krebs on his rookie contract and Vegas' 1st rd pick in exchange for a 25 yr. old franchise center, in his prime with 5 years remaining on his contract.

I just don't see a kings ransom coming in for Kane. At least from the Sabres. Kane is better than anyone on the Sabres and it would be huge to have a guy like that. But the Sabres are putting together a team with pieces that complete the puzzle. Pieces that are also good for the locker room and want to be here.

Kane's reputation in Buffalo is not the greatest. Neither was Eichel's. For different reasons of course. But if there is a deal struck and Buffalo parts with valuable pieces and prospects... Kane's attitude and desire to be here will be a paramount factor that will be considered.

Or. Kane stays in Chicago. Which can't be a bad thing from a Blackhawk fans standpoint.

From an outsider looking in. I see the return for Kane being a little more than what Giroux left Philly for. Unless a contract extension occurs of course.

And most likely a new coach named within the next week or two. If half of what you predict occurs, Theo will have a lot of subject matter.

I see no evidence of anything whatsoever about JD is that he seeks draft picks as the Blackhawk championship runs depleted years of prospects...somethiung that just happens if a team (like TAMPA BAY) wants options to keep the window open.(...they trade two number ones to get a CAP easy F1 in younger Hagel...)
Let's play they got Dobson and Byram....did their roles as hawks in the last two years change the Blackhawk fortunes in the standings?

I am not even sure if you take back the Seth Jones deal that those draft picks make them all that better for oct 2022, but they sure would in the long game.

This process of harvesting the "right draft prospects" and then m making opportunities for success at the pro level is a long process.
Back to the Lightning, Ross Colton is their best hop as a possible flourishing attacker / scorer, but honestly even with the room of quality forwards, will he be a mainstay in a year, in two? (I am willing to say the same on bagel who still has upside in my opinion-things take time.)

An it is humorous to me that they even think the newly revamped Chicago scouting consortium are going to be able to ferret out solid NHLers with the picks at #90, 94, 167, 173 and 199. I WOULD call Davidson's comments concerning this years picks and he is using them in his re-tool pieces as arrogant, but what every organization team member understands that positivity is what their messages are suppose to be about to the fans through the media.

And we should expect Toews and almost every player to not make anymore disparaging comments, since their checks come ticket sales & concessions.

So I have little belief in the words I hear from them..we know the conditions of this player group and the farm.

Hope is what they are selling...a new beginning, and w/o adding this much debated addition of draft picks we all think may come from trading part of our useful impact players, I don't see lightning in the bottle from them, much like the reach to take Lukas Reichel only result sora has been talk about what can/if/might happen....

Boston U. goalie Drew Commesso, who Pat Boyle announced would be their starter after the next temporary placeholder 'tender (See what I mean? blather!) is over twenty in July, so he cannot play in the World Junior UNDER-20

Good take. Thanks for stopping by. One thing to remember, is that Kane has full control over his movement. He is not going to waive and just be dealt anywhere. If ends up in Buffalo, it is because he wants to be there.

Another thing to consider is that Kane is much more mature now than in the past. He has been very good at working with younger players to make them better and help them advance. If he did end up there, I don't think you would have any issue with the results.

Amazing how the NHL coaching is still the old boy's network. Surprised KD is not interviewing Mike Yeo, or Alain Vigneault. Might as well bring Pulford out of retirement.

Ah. Thank you. That was the one part of this that I was uncertain of, if he controlled movement. A player like that, I'd be a fool not to think that he had that kind of say. And yeah. There hasn't been a peep in years around here about him as far as incidents n such.

I know a while back the Blackhawk organization was sending a chaperone with him during the summers here to.. keep an eye on things, but I'd have to say those times are a thing of the past. And from what I heard a lot of the trouble he would find himself in had to do with the company he kept, childhood friends, cousins n such.

Over the past handful of years he looks like he's done a phenomenal job as a shepherd to the up n coming Blackhawk youth.

It's not completely unfathomable. FLA just got dusted when they loaded up on talent. Maybe management wanted a coach with more NHL experience instead of taking a chance on a guy with minimal.

Look at a lot of the coaches that made the playoffs: Bednar, Brind'amour, Woodcroft (just signed a new contract), Cooper, Keefe. It's not like new guys don't get any opportunities at all. It likely depends on where GM's think the team is.

If the Hawks didn't go to the "old boy's network", they'd have stayed with Savard and not gone to Q.

If Byfield and Turcotte are part of the ask for Debrincat, it looks like KD is revamping the team's center position. Could that mean Toews and or Dach are being moved out?

I agree, but I am thinking more of DeBoer, is he going to end up coaching every team in the NHL? Yes his teams went deep into the playoffs, but he had very talented teams, and some could argue it is a fail that he never has won a cup so far.

Pure gold from the article:

According to Hockey30 the Chicago Blackhawks and the Los Angeles Kings are talking a trade that would send Alex DeBrincat to LA in exchange for Quinton Byfield. The Kings don't seem to be too inclined to get rid of Byfield, but they really really want DeBrincat.

Byfield is largely considered a bust to this point in his NHL career, the 2020 second overall pick has only skated in 46 career NHL games scoring 11 points in that time, 5 goals and 6 assists, however, he is only 20 years old so it would be quite unfair to write him off just yet.

The writer would fit in perfectly here.

I’ve followed Maurice for years and the one thing I’ve noticed is when any of his teams face adversity they lose their discipline and either abandon the team system or they start accumulating stupid penalties and at the worst possible times. He is very good at instilling a defensive structure and when things are going well the team does well. But, if the other team commits an egregious penalty instead of calming the team and moving forward Maurice turns red in the face and loses his (frank)ing poop, the team then follows. Likewise if the team isn’t playing well Maurice again stews behind the bench and the team start playing as individuals forgetting the system.

That's what i thought, 1st Strome, 2nd Dach and if they trade for Byfield it'll be the same thing all over again with this impatient group.
