The Avs had McKinnon, Landeskog and Rantanen when they stunk in 16/17 then drafted Makar 4th overall. .... Jackets have Laine, Sillinger, Johnson and add Werenski, maybe even Boqvist too, and now draft 6th and 12th overall.

Maybe a lazy comparison overall but some similarities just the same. Indeed, be patient, stick to the plan, make a series of prudent moves and not too much of a stretch to see the Jackets on a similar path.

Lackluster, absolutely. The transition train is apparent. Columbus hasn’t had a number one overall pick since trading up for Rick Nash. Never had a natural number one selection fall to them. Nate Dogg, Landy, Mikko, Cale are all natural picks. They dropped in the draft and still got Cale.

I don't see a Makar on the CBJ, sure there's Werensky but not at all the same skill set.

There's not another Makar in the league, so if you're waiting for one, you'll be disappointed.

Gentlemen,

What cbj fans are waiting for is showing Laine the cash and signing him to a long-term deal. Then the team finds a way to get a veteran but not overage d-man or two that solidifies the top 6.

After that young players must develop and the few veterans left have to play 70+ games, or well enough to get assets at the trade deadline next season. Then maybe one day we can be a serious cup contender.
