If Krug isn't included, then they can't fit Tkachuk under the cap, whereas Tarasenko puts you in the same spot as he's a UFA in a year. Tkachuk might want to sign a one year deal, then sign 8 additional years - regardless STL gets 8-9 years out of him at a better AAV vs 7 years UFA at $11-12m

This is why you only put a players number on your Jersey after they have earned it.

Dark days to be a Flames fan. But They have a lot of good pieces to trade and can weaponize some cap space before the cap goes up.

Sad to see Tkachuk go but at least he has the ballz to say he is not going to sign and seems he is willing to do right by the team.

JG is a clueless sack of poop.

So, i've been steamrolled on this board a week ago for having proposed a complete 2 year rebuild, involving trading Tkachuk, Lindholm et al.

Should I repost? 😜😂

Flames really don't need defense at all. In fact they could trade a few blue liners to fill in their forward ranks - Calgary doesn't even have three complete lines of NHL forwards right now and has at least two holes in the top six that need to be filled (though Pelletier likely moves up next year, making 9, and they should sign Kadri as well). Krug makes the salary work but Calgary shouldn't bite and insist on Buchnevich and Kyrou, which I sincerely doubt St. Louis would do, but it's the only move that makes sense for the Flames IMO.

Edit: could be Tarasenko and Kyrou++ also

I'm expecting a great year from the Flames. Sutter has done more with less in the past and there is a ton of bulletin board material to motivate the team. It won't be as fun to watch, but even if they don't add anyone else, they still have a team that'll win many low-scoring games.

Kyrou is a name that keeps coming up, but they can't make that trade thinking they have a year to convince him to sign. Any trade with Kyrou has to come with an extension because they can't do this again next summer.

Kadri would be nice, but hopefully, the Flames don't just waste all their cap space. They have another 10+ million coming off after this season as well. It's probably too late in the summer to help solve someone else's cap issues, but it'd be nice if they could bring in someone like JVR and get a little something else for doing so.

They don't have any superstar talent left, but their forward group is still pretty solid. Assuming they don't trade Mangiapane as well, Pelletier and Ruzicka are pretty much guaranteed a spot, so they have 11 decent forwards. Their top six is good enough and they'll probably get a top six guy back for Tkachuk. It'll be pretty straightforward to sign a couple of scrubs that'll run into people for Sutter.

A team will offer way more than that peice of shit is worth and the flames will be better off without him.

Piece of... is a bit too much... but as I mentioned, I won't miss Tkachuk. Our dressing room will be better. We don't need a player who puts his interests above the team.

The only issue is how we handled JG's exit. Give these players deadlines and tell them to be a man.

As our roster stands, I'd really like to see:

Mangiapane-Lindholm-Coleman (work ethic off the charts)
Pelletier-Backlund-Toffoli

We still have three notable Americans under contract, Hanifin, Coleman and Wolf.

Miss Coleman for that reason. And on a god awful team like ours, he wast still great in the top 6 when he had to be. He can manage a bigger role

Coleman held his part of the deal last season. Definitely a solid signing. Not a James Neal. Love his game. But that entire line is what I was referring to. Mange will go through the glass if he has to. Lindholm's a complete player. Throw in Coleman and it's a legit line.

You could tell JG-Lindholm-Tkachuk were never going to get separated early on, at least now there's a chance to see Coleman and Mange join Lindy on the top line. Of course Sutter will throw a curve ball and put Toffoli or Pelletier there instead of Coleman now that I've said it. Coleman, Lindholm, Mangiapane are the hardest working forwards no doubt.

Unless St Louis is offering the world, that would be the last place I’d send Tkachuk. Devils have lots of prospects that would be nice to have and as someone mentioned Chucky’s cousin is the GM.
I hope Treliving doesn’t Fuk this up.

Coleman’s a solid 2nd 3rd liner but to think he’d play on the top line Flames better do better than that.

Not necessarily. He only said it now after seeing the reaction to Gaudreau. So it was pretty much a no brainer anyway.

Well I'm sick of watching Coleman in great position, only to see Backlund with the puck swarmed by 2-3 players, never saw him open.

Sounds like we'll get a winger and I could see Sutter keeping Toffoli on the top line, especially if he shows up to camp more lean. But it would be fun to watch Coleman up there with Lindholm-Mangiapane.

Dube and Mange are going to get a lot more meaningful minutes. Both have got to be excited about their new found opportunities.

Monahan as well.

What a ducking disaster of a rebuild.

Aren't the taxes a lot lower in Alberta compared to some of the other provinces? I loved Calgary when I was there in 2017.

Used to be one of the lowest rates in NA but the last five years or so of the Trudeau/Notley combo completely screwed us.
