Thinking they knew he’d get more in arbitration, but under the amount in which they can walk away, although arbitration is just 1 year and this is a 2 year deal so who knows probably giving them more credit then is due.

Well we have a couple extra expensive forwards and couple extra d so hopefully there are some moves to be made here.

I do not think an arbitrator would have awarded him higher than 3.2, but what is a realistic amount. If the Pens were asking for a number less than 2M they wouldn't win. Ask for 2.5? What is the point to go to arb on that for so little a difference in what he got. I think if you qualified him at all you had to sign him, and it should be for two years. If your going to take the risk on him at all you should reap the benefit in the second year if he performs, not be facing an arb case again. Surprised he got a 2yr at the same cap hit though, I did not think that was warranted. Thought more along the lines of 2Y 5 - 5.5M made sense

Aside from the obvious, that second year is really what stings. Hex could have done a "prove it" year and make his contract moveable if necessary.
