Hawks fan that was also shocked to see him walk for free. As for faceoffs he was vastly improved last year, around 55% and that’s against highest quality of competition. Yea he needs skilled wingers to help him produce as he’s more of a playmaker then a sniper but how many C’s can drive a line on their own? That would make them elite and no ones claiming strome is that. Yea his foot speed and skating is sub par but he thinks the game well enough to (mostly) make up for it. He played against the highest quality of competition for the second half of last year and more then held his own. I think his player card from j-fresh had his WAR score over 80% from December on last season.

I was very disappointed they did not resign him. But he lived in the dog house for so long and Davidson was there to be part of the reasoning in keeping him there. So it was no surprise that they let him walk. Problem is they don't hold Kane to the standard of a 200 ft player and Strome stepped in when Dach could not win a face off. Seems to me that this will be a better opportunity and better coaching than he has received in his tenure in Chicago. Good Luck Dylan

Strome was arbitration eligible and his qualifying offer was 3.6M. His stats were padded last year centering Kane and Debrincat. If he went to arbitration and the arbiter just looked at his numbers he could have been awarded 4.5M or more. I think these factors scared potential trade partners away.

Yea probably, but if you take that one year deal at 4.5 and let him continue to pad his stats in between kane and domi maybe you can move him for something at the deadline. If you can’t he walks at the end of next season as a ufa. Terrible asset management.

I don't think either of the Strome bros have lived up with the hype.
