I’ve said this signing was one the best of the silly season. He was great for the Rangers, you will love him. His shot is better than good |

I like the move more and more…
Still need some key adds. Verbeek missed on NN … FA cupboard getting empty .. |

Lundestrom is going to take some of it, but there's still $10 million he HAS to spend. Plus, according to Cap Friendly, the Ducks have only 16 of their 23 roster spots filled. Unless the plan is to double-shift Terry-Zegras-Henrique every game, GMPV needs to sign some bodies. |

Evan Rodrigues seems like a decent add if we can get him. |

At this point. The Ducks can pretty much sign or trade for any player as long as they're on a 1 or 2 year contract. Eventually we have to admit that what we have in our prospect system is as good as any free agent. So Sam Carrick should get some minutes.
Eventually you just gotta make due with what you got. We definitely should get another top 10 pick next year. But I was really hoping for another winger. Maybe resign Manson. This is how free agency goes though. These players want money, a good team, and nice city to live in. And we only check one of those boxes. Anaheim is a nice place to live. But playing on a losing team is like working for a bad company. It really would have helped to consider these things in next years off-season
But maybe Verbeek really underestimated how hard rebuilding the roster would be. Building a team just from drafting just isn't done anymore. Maybe you can tank for 3 or 4 years. And 5 to 8 young players. Then add through free agency or trades. The Rangers are a good example of this. Maple leafs too. A team full of rookies just waiting for prospect to mature takes too long.
But now we look foward. To more draft picks. To draft the lottery. And to a team that's still growing. It can be more. It can be faster. But someone in the front office decided that "easy does it" was the way to go. And we can all dream of a top 3 pick in next year's draft. That'll be good if it happens. But If it does, it won't make things faster. It'll definitely be more exciting. But not faster. Plenty of hall of fame caliber players have had to wait their turn to win a Cup. Stamkos, McKinnon had to wait before they both won. Crosby and Malkin waited. Heck McDavid, Drissattle, Matthews, Taveras, are still waiting. I'm just hoping that we Ducks fans won't have to wait that much longer. |

This is all well and good, but GMPV still has to spend $8.5 million and sign 6 more players. He could have gotten Bjorkstrand today who can score goals, is big, and can skate, plus he has 4 years left on a $5.4 million contract. If tanking for Bedard was the goal for next year, then he wouldn't have signed Strome and Vatrano, and the Ducks would look like the Blackhawks.

I'm not sure if it matters anymore. The players that would have added 3 to 5 more wins are already signed. And the player's that would have been fun to watch are gone too. Maybe the Ducks can add another veteran for leadership. But I think the dream of making next years Ducks team better or at least more exciting is dead. |

Add to this Gibson has emphasized he doesn’t want to be part of a rebuild.. |
