With Weegar off the board now.....oh man could Ottawa snag Tanev?!
The Tkachuk's will see each other a little more this season now! |

Glad they didn’t get M Tkachuk. Having both makes it look like the players are in charge and it didn’t make sense with both being LW anyway.
I think bang for buck, Tanev is the best option. Still big on Chuckryn (especially if Sanderson falters in any way), but with Calgary adding D, they might be open to moving Tanev now.
All this is bonus though, the only thing that matters to me right now is taking away Smiths broken toy Zaitsev. The guy is fine on 3P, but gets first line numbers with smith. |

Tanev is doubtful, but Kylington is very much in play. 31 points last season and starting to find his game as one of the faster defencemen in the NHL. Doubt it would cost more than a second round pick. |

Interesting Trevor, I have had a few mention his name but it depends on what direction the team goes. What will be Brad's next move? It will show many in the hockey world what players are available!

Very true on the brothers! But there's NO WAY Zaitsev can be here when training camp starts......not a chance, like you said....take him away as an option for DJ.

Get Huberdeau and Weegar signed to long term extensions is most likely the primary goal for Treliving over this season. The Flames have a great core of defensemen, a great goalie, a Jack Adams coach and will likely grind out a solid year.
If things don’t go well though, expect heads to roll. A sell-off could be in the mix if the team is below 20th by March. Treliving would go too. The Flames quietly hired Bob Murray as a scout this season after he resigned as GM in Anaheim. I would bet money that Bob takes over GM duties; Darryl and him go back fourty years.
Jacob Markstrom’s full NMC is the only hindrance to that. He steals games when he’s healthy. |

Great points Trevor on Murray....great insight! Markstrom is nails.....he steals many games without a doubt!! |

Huberdeau has his nice pad down Florida, no taxes....I bet he walks.....just depends on what team will have the cap space next summer for him if he doesn't re-sign.

Talking with a few scouts late tonight, they say Detroit will go after Huberdeau hard next summer as a UFA! |

Just saw this. Tanev wouldn't be ready for training camp.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...r-surgery-out-4-6-months/ - Kevin Francis
That was old, saw another report that surgery went good & they were hoping he would be ready Oct/Nov. But who knows. Not sure on Monahan either so Flames may have a lot more cap space than people think with the IR |

Flames have 9 (!) defensemen on one way contracts for next season. Somebody is moving. Ottawa might be on Tanev's no trade list but he could waive with the moves Ottawa made, given he's from Ontario. Weegar could still be in play depending how the Flames want to go, but it looks pretty clear there's a deal to be made between Ottawa and Calgary. |

Tanev may not be ready till December. Even that wasn't the case you don't trade away years of JBD for 2 years of Tanev. That's just nuts to draft and develop a guy and then just when he might be ready give him away for somebody who won't be around very long. |

Right side is loaded in Calgary....but I don't see them moving Weegar unless they get a nice return, you know management is selling the trade by getting Huberdeau and Weegar, to turn around and flip him for prospects and picks....it would piss the fan base off again in Calgary. Tanev is the guy for me and many others I have talked to.

I hear ya....I guess a lot will have to do with how JBD and Thomson look in training camp and pre-season games. Then after the 20 game mark.....Dorion will know what he has on defense with his youth.

As posted in the Calgary blog just now in the comment section.
They announced a couple weeks ago, he’s ahead of schedule and they think he’ll be ready for the start of the season. |

I think Huberdeau signs an extension with the Flames but even if he didn't and hits the market next summer, i can't see Yzerman giving a 30 year old a long term big money deal for a winger. Yzerman wasn't interested in Gaudreau and i doubt it changes for Huberdeau. |

Although he might not sign in Detroit as you say due to age, it will depend on Yzerman's feel as to where Detroit is regarding contending the following season or not.....no way Huberdeau signs in Calgary, I know too much about him and his agent....stuff they've said, etc... off the record. NJ will make a play for him.

Anaheim has the cap space and the need for D too.....I was told Zaitsev could be dealt to the Ducks due to their defense lacking vets and being thin. |

If he won't sign then i guess the Flames are going to look to move him again. Can't see them letting him go for nothing as a UFA and they likely don't want this dragging on into the season. Devils and Islanders are likely to be the most interested. |

Calgary learned their lesson lol with Gaudreau....they'll make sure with Huberdeau's camp prior to the deadline if he will re-sign...NJ has more upside with their younger roster...NYI that roster is going to age much faster.

I would think they would want to deal with this now as oppose to waiting until the deadline. If they can get a good package from the Devils now like Bratt, Holtz and a 2023 1st (assuming Huberdeau signs an extension), they should take it. That would make a pretty damn good haul in the end for Tkachuk. |

I hear ya, great point....but the problem is Calgary has never ever said to their fanbase they are rebuilding. They will milk whatever angle they have to, all season leading up to the deadline. Perception is everything...now they have the fan base on their side after the trade for Matthew. They would never turn around and trade Huberdeau this summer for youth and prospects....it's how ownership and management operate in Calgary, they want to control the narrative. |
