Tkachuk won't help much defensively nor in the playoffs. Not saying he is a bandaid in his own end, but he played on a line with Lindholm who was in the running for the Selke. He is not a play carrier, that was up to Gaudreau. He is roughly a .55PPG player in the playoffs so far in his career. And as I stated in a previous blog, it was rumored here in Calgary he caused a rift in the locker room. Yes his physical and agitating style bring something possibly lacking in Florida (aside from Hornqvist), but he should not be seen as a savior yet. He does have his warts and concerns.

Wow, run the guy out of town much? Zito had talked to Hubie's agent at the draft and told him his client was the top priority to get signed. An offer would be coming. Next call was the trade. I'm not going to trash Tkachuk for his decision to go to FLA. Why not, lots of femaies around, lot of bars and distractions, no snow and a lifestyle well suited for a yong guy. Doesn't say much about his character that he decided akk this in the space of a couple of days. Last month he was excited to be able to sign a long term deal in Calfary. What he didn't mention was that it was to be a sign and trade.

You get what you get with Tkachuk. Not a playoff performer. Looks like a super skilled guy at times and a sookie at other times when he misses a shot or the puck goes back the other way quickly. The one thing you will for sure like is his ability to make the game about him. Draws others into scrums. Mouths off at everyone. Fights just enough to look tough. Tampa will despise him, but don't expect him to get the better of them.

He can hang out with his buddy Bennet and try to figure out who is going to pass to him.

I don't blame the Panthers for going for it. I agree with the author that the franchise needs to make this aggressive move to improve on the ice and send a message to the team and fan base. So many people (me included) criticized the franchise in the past for being mediocre and not trying harder. You can't say that anymore. I wouldn't mind seeing Florida win a Cup.

Some more details on Tkachuk from an observational point from someone who has watched a fair amount of him.

Many Flames fans are now critical of his skating saying he is as bad as Lucic... I wouldn't go that far. He does glide more than he needs to yes, but he usually gets to where he needs to in time. Being a net front presence by the time one is needed. But skating is definitely not his strongest assett.

Puck handling is definitely not a strong suit for him. but he can find a way to release a decent shot from anywhere in his position.

The game can get in his head. He tends to think the game is more about him vs a certain guy at times. See him vs Kassian or Klingberg.

He can change the pace of a game if a team lets him. Often he would do something to change the attitude and atmosphere of the game, but it usually had to take a response from the other team. If they didn't respond, it would result in some questionable penalties for him. If it worked he threw games off their plan. See games vs Doughty and Kassian.

I dont think Matty TK is a regular 100 pt guy besides the aboration of last year where a perfect storm happened. Could he do it again, sure. but more often a 80-90 point guy at best riding shotgun to 2 better players on his line.

And as far as I saw Tkachuk had little to do in the community. He says he did a lot, but I can't think of one time I ever heard or saw of him outside of flames games. Did see him at the ship and anchor with his dad one night.

Is this FoxNews or CNN?

Or a hockey rumor site?

Take your pro/anti vax political stance elsewhere and discuss it there... No one here cares about that squishy sound coming from between either sets of your cheeks.

Really well thought out review of the trade. I think short term the trade is balanced and long term the trade also remains balanced because of the draft pick inclusions.

This might be a case where the trade is win win for both sides.

Cap space is at the root of everything that is happening this summer in regard to hockey trades. Does it make sense for a young team like Florida to tie up $9-$10m for the next 7-8 years in a player who is 30 years old? Might be okay for a couple of years but players age fast after 30. Players that are passed their prime on a $10m contract are problematic. Huberdeau is a very good technical skater and he might give you a few good seasons but he is at the end of his peak performance years. Story is much the same for Weeger. Tkachuk, on the other hand, is just heading into his prime.

Short term Calgary is a better team with Huberdeau and Weeger. They will need to start their rebuild a lot sooner than Florida and when that happens they might have gained some advantage in the draft picks.

Jesus F-ing Christ. Can you F-ing knuckle-dragging troglodytes leave politics out of something for once.

I live in Florida. DeSantis is a F-ing douchebag. Worst governor this state has had in modern memory. He's trash and he's done phuck-all of nothing for the people of this state. All he does is trigger the libs to build his whitehouse bid. He doesn't give a phuck about Florida, you, me, or anything else other than power. F that guy and F you for supporting him, dippoop.

From an outsiders perspective who was really excited for the cats last season this trade seams like a necessary trade to retool. The team is weak on the back end while spending close to the cap with very little draft capital in order to off load bob in order to stay competitive. As soon as ekblad goes down the season is in jeopardy, the new coach is gonna have to work miracles to have the forwards make up for what’s missing on d. Best of luck fighting off Detroit and Ottawa in the next 2 seasons, Florida will be lucky to land in the top 3.

Tkachuk will bring the physicality, and push the Panthers over the top. This past core wasn't getting it done. They were soft. Tampa pushed us around, and they did the rag doll shuffle on us. Did we have the fight in us, no we just tucked our tails under our legs and went whimpering off. Calgary is the soft team now, and they will find Huberdeau isn't fast nor does he have the hockey sense not to make a cross-ice pass while three defensemen are in his way. Weeger was ok but made a ton of mistakes. He's no Bobby Orr. I know that Bill Zito wasn't happy that these guys weren't more pissed off losing to Tampa. He wants a more competitive edge from his players.

I think the defense position has changed. It use to be you get the biggest, meanest defenseman to put the fear of God into opposing forwards. But the speed of the game leaves these guys flat-footed and caught out of position. Speedy forwards buzz past them and leave the goaltender a hopeless victim. Makar, Fox, and Josi have the speed to get to the puck and move it out to their forwards. They are great moving puck carriers. I think Forsling and Del Zotto have the potential to be these kinds of defensemen.

Maybe DeSantis wouldn’t even be governor if the Democrats would have run someone other than a crackhead against him.

Pardon me. He’s a meth head not a crack head. The guy you’re replying to would still rather have Guillam. The majority of the democrat voting base looks at politics as a team sport. Be damned what’s actually good for the state. Guillam ran on imposing a state income tax. It’s incredible how he got any votes let alone made it a competitive race. That tells you all you need to know about how their base votes. I’m still trying to figure out what negative thing Desantis has done to the state of Florida. By all accounts he has done swimmingly. None of my democrat voting friends can tell me? I say this as a registered libertarian who despises both parties.

Before last season Tkachuk's high in pts was 77. There is the chance he reverts to form which includes missing a whole lot of games due to injury. I like swinging for the fences but Huberdeau for Tkachuk alone, I'm not making this deal. Time will tell but I would temper the enthusiasm
