I wonder if Zaitsev would stop a move to the Yotes. What a frustrating contract.

That is a massive deal. I don't mind Crouse. I think he could be an upgrade over Formenton while you also improve the defence with Chychrun.

A trade with 1st round picks is always risky but at some point you have to make the risk to make the team better. This is not the same situation as Duchene coming to town. Many other reinforcements have been added to improve this team.

I know for a fact AZ isn't on his 10 team no trade list. As some of you know, I have very close contacts in AZ and a few other teams in the Western Conf.

Like you said, you have to go all in, not halfway in after upgrading the forward and goaltender position.

I was told Crouse's game is better suited for the Eastern Conference! AZ has little player control left for him too, another reason why they want to move him now! Formenton has far more player control left.

I wouldn't give up two 1st rd picks but I'm okay with the deal suggested.

Taking zaitsev alone would cost them a 2nd anyways.

I would be surprised if the Yotes took a deal like that.... young quantity rather than young quality. I mean Chychrun is 24 years old and comes with 3 years of bargain priced cost certainty..... I would think the Yotes ask will start with Sanderson, a 2023 1st plus a sweetener.

If you knew the upside of either Lassi or JBD....plus the picks involved, Sokolov....etc...if you saw either in the AHL or NHL in their games.

I know for a fact they haven't asked for Sanderson. As many on here know, I am very tied in with the Western Conf and AZ.

But thanks for stopping by the blog and jumping in.

That's just it.....the 2nd for Zaitsev......but again a lot of moving pieces here.....Dorion has his hand in a few potential deals with different players.

I'd love the deal if it was Branny instead of JBD or Thomson.

Would you do Sanderson straight up for Chychrun? Would AZ?

They don't want Brannstrom. They are looking for prospects, with upside and can either play this year or next!

AZ hasn't discussed Sanderson at all.....Dorion flat out told them/gave them players that they are willing to talk about/discuss in potential trade scenarios.

And no I wouldn't do a straight up deal, this team needs players on ELC's for the next 2 years to help their upcoming cap issues before the cap goes up.

Wow, if Chychrun and Crouse coming with not giving Pinto or Grieig. Dorion is a genius. I don’t care giving two first

I can tell you Pinto and Greig, along with Sanderson are untouchable in PD's eyes when it comes to a trade for a top 4 dman. By the time the 2024 1st round pick comes around, I would hope it's in the 20's of the 1st round....I am with you man!

Liking everything that I am reading. Loved Crouse as a junior. At one time, I think some commentators had him going top 5 in their early draft rankings.

Chychrun and Crouse are big boys. Size matters. Speed is more important but you do not want your ice presence to get too small. DeBrincat and Giroux may be great adds and great skaters but they are not big guys.

Oh he isn't. But he has to go out if we are bringing in a RD.

Is J. Bernard-Docker trade bait at all?

Is he close on making the bottom 3 D-men in NHL?

Good to know he couldn't stop a trade.

Any trade that happens, I think it's important to make it happen before training camp. If you are going for it now, you want your entire team together from day 1 and not have any "missed training camp" excuses.

While the package is large it's important to look at what is actually happening. Crouse would replace Formenton and Chychrun would replace Thompson or JBD. The picks, one would be for taking on Zaitsev and the other would be for acquiring a player if Chychrun's quality. A prospect like Sokolov is a throw in that happens in thousands of NHL deals. It's not really that crazy. Hopefully the Yotes don't realize that. No way the Sens can be bottom feeders again after this offseason unless a season of massive injury and misfortune occurs. The picks should be late teens, early 20s which are are crapshoots and those players won't be NHL ready for 3 years down the road.

Exciting times.

First off, I would make that trade. It's not easy to give up those pieces, but at the end of the day, I feel it would be worth it. We've done a lot of addition without (roster) subtraction this off-season. So now would b the time to give in order to get.

I can't help but wonder how much the legal situation surrounding Formenton is playing a factor in his inclusion in this deal. Or is it just a matter of contract negotiations going sour? He is a great fit on this team. At least on the ice, I have no idea what secrets might lie behind closed doors. He's an extremely versatile player, and his incredible speed is noticeable every game. I'd much rather keep him over Crouse.

Tkachuk Norris Batherson
DeBrincat Stützle Giroux
Crouse Pinto Joseph
Kelly Gambrell Watson
kastelic

Chabot Chychrun
Sanderson Zub
Holden Hamonic
Brännström

Forsberg
Talbot
Søgaard

That's a pretty good looking line-up. Personally, I'm not 100% sold on throwing Sanderson onto the second pairing for his first NHL game. I'd prefer swapping him with Holden. But everyone else seems to want him on that second pairing with either Zub or Chychrun.

The addition of Chychrun seems inevitable at this point. And even without adding him, this is gonna be such a fun roster in regards to chemistry. Often times you gotta try to force lines. But this year, there's gonna be so much opportunity to move guys up and down and allow chemistry to dictate line combos. For all we know, Giroux and Joseph will be amazing together. And depending on the third guy on that line, that could either be line 2 OR 3.

GO SENS GO!!

Hamonic has only this year left on his deal at $3m. Sens are going to need most of his salary to extend Zub. Zaitsev and Chychrun would offset one another since they have similar cap hits. Beyond this year, maybe Holden is only guy who will survive as a veteran depth Dman for the Sens.

Moving something from the group of young Ds that includes Sanderson, Thompson, JBD, Brannstrom and possibly Klevin will probably be necessary (but no Sanderson move). Need to be careful. Dmen on entry level contracts are precious. Sens have entered into a new era when it comes to monitoring the salary cap.

Nobody is trading for Formenton until the Hockey Canada investigations are over with. There is a chance he might not even be able to play this year

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!! Sanderson alone is worth more than Chychrun. And you think the Sens would have to add their 2023 1st, PLUS?! They must have really good meth in Calgary. Cuz you're completely insane.

No way Dorion would entertain moving Sanderson.

Ottawa has other good young D prospects. If I am Arizona I want Armstrong to take a real good look at Klevin.

Instead of the 2023 1st rounder do you think they would take Tyler Boucher? Born in Arizona and has seemingly really stepped it up recently.

To Arizona -
Thomson or JBD
Sokolov
Tyler Boucher
2nd round pick in 2024
Zaitsev

To Ottawa -
Chychrun
3rd round pick in 2024

Sanderson-Chabot is going to be the new (but different) Chara-Redden for Ottawa and when Jake hits his stride with Chabot in his prime, it should be freaking great to watch.
