Here’s my problem with this: Campbell has never been a high end starter. He had one small stretch of great tending in his career. And you think that is actually his norm? He has been mediocre at best for the majority of his career. Expecting he’ll light it up is setting up for a letdown I think. JMO.

Oh and fist. Suck it Rattager!!

Describes inconsistency through year. Then “consistency is his game and he will be calming force.” Can’t make this up.

I think if the Oilers get solid consistent goaltending - does not have to be spectacular or league leading - they will be alright.

Can Campbell deliver on that?

I am not sure, will be interesting to watch.

I too was shocked when Campbell didn't resign with the leafs because they are indeed the center of the hockey universe and every player who has ever laced up the blades wants to play for the leafs.

Oil made the Conference finals with Smith in Net lol. Chances are they'll be in the SCF next season with Campbell.

IF Campbell can stay out of his head. IF Campbell can manage to stay healthy and not go down to injury. And IF Campbell can find some consistency.

A lot of money and term tossed for a lot of IF's there for the Oilers so I just don't know if they are better with him or not.

What IF Koskinen let's in the first shot on goal again, what IF he allows the 2nd one again too? What iF Smith misses 50 games to injury again? What IF Smith regresses more? What IF Campbell shows he is more 1st half of last year Campbell than 2nd? Ifs can work both ways. Time will tell I guess IF he is an upgrade.

i think the bigger if in this maybe what Skinner can be. His AHL stats were great and he performed reasonably last year. If Campbell falters how does he shoulder the load. I have my worries with campbell but outside of the top 5-6 goalies in the league I think that is now more common place on most teams. I would not be surprised to see Skinner as a starter at some point and the Oilers looking to dump Campbells salary in year 2.

What makes you think he’s the goalie he was for 8 weeks at the start of last season and not the goalie he’s been for the other 10 years of his career?

Well I called them in the 2nd round/conference finals last year and was called a conspiracy theorist lol so it just depends on how much you would like to lose...

Campbell has been a career backup or 1A for his entire career and last year he had a hot streak playing on a very good team before he went back to being average. The chances he stays strong and is the answer is slim in my opinon. They may as well have signed Charlie Lindgren at 1 mil and got the same results or better. Lindgren was 5-0 in a short stint with the Blues and was spectacular. So I have serious doubts Campbell will be any better than Smith and Koskinen who by the way had good winning percentages, thanks McDavid and Draisitl.
