Which organization employs the worst gm in hockey?
The Philadelphia version of the gong show in hockey...
Chuckie Baby, Chuckie Baby...
The corpse of Gong Show host and Game show producer Chuck Barris would be a better GM |

The Sportster rated the worst GMs in the history of the NHL in 2014. Milbury was the worst and Farwell and Clarke were #3 and #4 respectively. That’s when Chuck said,
“Hold my beer”.

What jackwagon pulled that list out of his posterior?
Clarke was GM of 4 Cup Finalists ('85 Flyers, '87 Flyers, '91 North Stars, '97 Flyers). Also the main architect of the Panthers team that reached Cup Final in year three of its existence.
Don't want to list Clarke as a great GM? Fine. One of the four worst all-time? An absolute joke and a credibility killer.
As for Farwell, very good draft guy. So-so NHL roster moves. But at least had the guts to make the Recchi and Lindros trades. |

Lindros trade of course looks rough in hindsight, but that's beaten to a dead horse, However the guts for the Recchi trade is similar to Homer trading away Carter and Richards. Its one thing to move a guy asking to be traded, but for both GM's to make those moves, you had to have guts, knowing the outcome was likely to always be a judgement for your time as GM. i would much rather a willing attempt to make the team better than to sit stagnant and just hope for internal improvement when the cupboard is kind of thin. There are plenty of players on this team who could have great seasons but I probably look forward to this year as little as any I've ever had in my time watching these guys Torts interviews are probably one of the highlights of this next season. |

Farwell's deals on an individual basis were not bad at all imo. Never translated to team success.
Love that Joe Beranick trade

Yeah, I’m not qualified to judge a list that covers the history of the NHL. I didn’t have an opinion but just referenced the list. It’s like the 100 greatest guitarists list. Some like and others dislike it. His rationale for Farwell is almost solely based on the Lindros trade. For Clarke, it was based on not getting a premier goalie and some of his trades. I don’t have an emotion about it at all. But regardless, I agree with you that they aren’t nearly 3rd and 4th worst ever! Maybe he got a parking ticket in Philly once.

This list is atrocious. Devoid of context.
For example, Clarke moved Roenick (who was near the end of the line as a player and had suffered post-concussion effects through much of the lockout) because the Flyers needed cap space for Peter Forsberg. |

Really? Pretty much accepted the QO then? I guess his agent and the team kinda said, we are going to destroy you in the hearing. Lets stop this nonsense and sign the offer.
Edit: He actually took less than the QO. ($990,000) |

If I remember correctly, did Roenick agree to be traded (NTC?) because he was "a LA kinda guy" and because he did not want to stand in the way of a trade that would bring in an all time great? |

Flyers GMs have always had an abundance of guts, but a shortage of brains. |

25 contracts and $2,523,107 over. They place a couple 925,000 contracts down and switch out the Fedotov contract with one of the other back ups saves another 150,000 ish. They are still a bit over with 23 players. They most likely have to start with 22 players or less or start cashing in on LTIR. Seems like they are going to have at least 2 players on the IR at the start of the season. |

With a 22-player roster they're ~235k under, that's w/ Ellis and Farabee on regular IR.
I'm guessing they'll try to avoid putting anybody on LTIR for as long as possible to bank cap space... the team doesn't travel any further west than Nashville until December, maybe they can eke it out with 20-man roster until then. |

No. He stepped aside for Forsberg to come in. |
