I'm 39. Not old enough to have seen Clarkie play but heard plenty from my Dad. 16 was my hockey number, and homage to Clarkie

Well it’s a good thing Chuck essentially replaced Oskar Lindblom with Nicolas Deslauriers. I don’t even understand how you (frank) up a buyout. A buyout to me hints that nobody wants this player. Lindblom was picked up within the hour of his buyout at nearly the same cost he was making here…

Out of all the things the Flyers have done this offseason that just does not make sense, the Lindblom buyout is the only one that does.

Instead of stashing him on the 4th line and limiting his ice time they most likely wanted to do the best for him by giving him an opportunity with another team (which they knew others had interest, but were unwilling to give up any assets). Unfortunately combined with all the other blunders Fletcher has made over the years the perception is clearly "WTF they threw away the guy who had cancer", but I guarantee the move was done in the best interest of Oskar the whole time.

Just more poopty asset management by Chuck.

A salary-retained trade was out there... at least get something back for a decent young player they invested so much time into... but Chuck was so desperate for cap space that he couldn't even entertain the thought.

Chuck is objectively the worst GM in the league. Full stop.

It just goes to show how poorly the cap has been managed that he was willing to do that just to gain an extra $333,333 on the cap for this season.

I agree with your basic point but the buyout gained the Flyers $3,333,333 for this season.

Anyone want to tackle this in simple terms for those who don't watch the game on a spreadsheet. Poor Risto.

Ragnerson was good Defenseman.

I honestly don't think that CF knows what asset management really means. I think he just looks at a lineup and what he perceives to be a hole, and he fills it with anyone he can come up with. There seems to be no regard to longer range planning with regards to the particulars of age, position, talent level, and contract length. This is why the Flyers are a perennial bottom team stuck in cap hell. Granted, he inherited some of Hexy's issues (JVR comes to mind) but, damit! How long has he been here now? 3 or 4 years? Perhaps he was lulled into complacency with the 2020 playoff run, but that's long gone in the past now. The only hope we have is that this year will be his last. Regrettably, CF's boss is no better. Organizational rot has set in.

I have a hard time believing they couldn't trade him to San Jose retain the diff from what they paid him for a mid rd pick.

Again this is a move with little plan behind it. You keep him see how he plays then maybe move him. Given the circumstances he produced under Yeo, circumstances being his line mates not just the cancer.

Nic D isn't his replacement. Cates is the potential replacement.

So versus if they had traded him. I just think that with the flat cap and Lindholm's cap hit plus just getting back into shape. The trade market for him was limited. He probably shopped him but didn't find an offer he liked so he opted for the cap relief of the buyout. If this team was anywhere close, this move would've completely pissed me off.

As said earlier cant imagine they couldn't retain and get a pick back. This way San Jose doesn't even have to give him 2 years as they can test him out on his last year.

Pure speculation on my part is he didn't want to retain. Just a horrible GM.

Andrae sounds like he could be a Kimmo Timonen type player. One can only hope!! I hope things work out for Oskar. I thought his game was progressing as the season was winding down, but Chuckles decided to do whatever his feeble brain is able to cook up. Please please FIRE CHUCK! Thanks!

Need to see Andrae play in a better league then see what he can do. I don't get excited playing well in lower level league.

Any mention of him and Kimmo is comical to me.

As usual someone takes things TOO literal on here. I said he sounds like he could be that type of player. I've never even seen the guy play. Try and chill out dude. Thanks!

Let me be clear. Coots is a nice player. Any team would want him. But he’s not even close to an almost 8 mil per season player. Never had been and never will be. In a cap world you can’t sign deals like that

Please tell me how he’s worth almost 8 mil? Look around the league. What warrants almost 8 mil?

And I better not get the he’s close to Bergy comparison because he’s not even same stratosphere of record holder 5 time selke winner one of best of all time defensive player Bergy.

Coots was underpaid on last deal by a little for sure. Same as simmonds was. Tough. You still made great money. Let someone else sign you to overpaid horrible contract.

Coots SHOULD have gotten no more than 5 years times 5 maybe 6 mil per year. That’s where his production and real cap worth to team was.

That’s the problem with this team. They over pay EVERYONE.

THATS WHY THEYRE CAPPED OUT WITH NO TOP TALENT OR ABILITY TO DO ANYTHING

He’s definitely the worst in the Flyers history in my mind, unless the older fellas can think of someone else.

You really don’t get it. Lindblom is out, out of the organization. Nic D is in and Nic D will play. Nic D will be on the fourth line where Lindblom was. We already had Cates here. Cates can very well win a spot, it could happen but he hasn’t yet. Nic D’s spot is secure.

I'm guessing(obviously can only speculate) the last 4 years of the Coots deal will be a serious burden to this team. He has lots of mileage on his body already and has a history of nagging injuries. And now he is coming off back surgery. If they get 4 good years out of him it may be a minor miracle. Terrible signing in my eyes. I'd rather have had him at a higher cap hit for a shorter term. Then when he inevitably breaks down you're done with him.

As an old fella….I’ll chime in. I don’t remember anyone this incompetent or even in the same stratosphere as CF. I’ve been slightly annoyed with some of them over the years and disagreed with some of their decisions, but never anything like this.

No you do not get it. That is pretty much clear with the majority of post you make daily.

Oskar is not a 4th line player. That is an absolute fact. To think ND replaced Oskar is just downright laughable. Two totally different players. Not even in the same galaxy.

I think moving Lindblom for an asset makes sense, I don’t think buying him out makes sense. Oskar Lindblom in my mind is a good player. He reminds me a lot of Michael Raffl. The problem is, the mix of forwards are bad. When you keep running back to the same well of Laughton, JvR and Lindblom as your third line and there is zero chemistry because the other lines make a little more sense, you have to make a change outside of the organization to bring back a better mix of player.
