With his injury history why would a team give him more than a year? If he proves to be rehabbed fully then pay him after.

They traded Romonov and then a 1st round pick for him. You don't do that if you are worry all that much about his health.

Pretty sure the Habs made their homework about his medical condition before trading Romanov to get him.

If they fully believe in him moving forward, giving him 3.5M for the next 4 years can turn into a bargain.

Of course it could also fail. We'll see.

Justifying a bad contract by comparing it to another bad contract is why there are so many bad deals in the nhl.
