Another prospect blocking signing of an over the hill 5th line forward who will be mentioned as good in the room. This team has to move on from their waste of space 3rd and 4th line plugs. The Jets have done absolutely nothing to improve this team over last years dump/chase and change the line squad.

I think you are underrating Gagner a bit. He is a solid, skilled forward.

While I get your point, and agree, the Jets do need to make room for prospects, there are not many prospects knocking of the door at forward. It is the defense that we see problems.

At the same time, Chevy just traded 2 2nd round picks for Dillon, and now players like Dmitri Kulikov are being traded for nothing. He won't get nearly the value Dillon is worth right now. Schmidt, who knows what that situation looks like, Chevy may even have to pay to move the contract.

Its not an easy summer to be doing things like this, thats why we still see some decent free agents available.

Certainly was. I love the signing, isolated. The Jets needed to make more moves than they have, but regardless of situation, Gagner at $750k is fantastic value

As long as your coach doesn't fall in love with Gagner's incredible team first attitude and relentless effort this should be a good signing for the Jets.

Gagner in a bottom 6 role is where he likely always should have been, and against lower quality of competition he can excel.

He will likely need to be rested games as his skating is not so good and while "only" 33 he is more like a 36+ type because of his below average skating.

No good team IMO should have Gagner in their line-up as full time 82 game roster player. Somewhere around 70 games at the most makes sense to me especially if you have quality prospects looking for cups of coffee. Much less if the competition for jobs is high.

At 750k its hard to criticize the signing. For some reason I kind thought he may be transitioning into an office role of some sort. I thought I read some teams may be interested in having him in some sort of coaching/office role.

Are you a Wings fan? Just wondering if you watched him all last season or not, his numbers are decent for a 3rd liner but Idk if he got most of his points shuffled up to the 2nd line due to injuries or something.

He's a decent addition for the Jets, wouldn't of been my first choice of the UFAs that remain unsigned but wouldn't of been my last either, the Jets get very little production from their bottom six and its really their biggest issue, hopefully Gagner can help change that a bit.

That 5th liner would've been the Jets most productive bottom six player last season.

Had a great year when he was part of the Blue Jackets! Hoping he can find that in Winnipeg. A true Blackhawks killer.

Gagner will score 30 points if you play him 14 mins per game but he doesn't hit he was last of any red wings player to play 30+ games. His pk improved, he was a top 9 player on Detroit but he's not a top 9 player on a playoff team.

The Jets can’t lose with this signing, he isn’t even a prospect blocker, cause with his minimum wage salary, he can be benched or even sent to the Moose if needed. But most likely he will be a 3rd or 4th liner chip in 10-15 goals and not embarrass himself on the ice and for 750,000 not much more you can ask for.

If Maurice didn’t quit the Jets could have ripped the phone out of the wall May 2nd!

A complete no-hockey summer, 4 months off and Gagner is the big news?

If he blocks Gus then this will be a mistake. He will need to put up points as he is NOT physical and let’s just say won’t intimidate many

You have to wonder what the “plan” is

Looks like the Ultimate one predicted the summer of Chevy pretty accurately.

Now cue all the Chevy apologists that have victim statements for Chevy already prepared. Easily the worst GM in the league.

Evgeny Svechnikov signs a 1 year deal with San Jose. WOnder if the Jets signing Gagner shut the door on a return, and his new agent, Dan Milstein made a quick move before more doors closed.

Who knows? I really liked Svechnikov. I do believe that he could have been this franchises version of Nichushkin. Just needed a real opportunity.

Subban would make for an interesting signing. He’s got something to prove and if he were to sign here, he would automatically become the number 1 right side defenseman. He’s still got his shot and would be wonderful on the power play.

Agree. He deserves a shot and it would be nice to see him back in a Canadian market.

Chevy probably going to take a few weeks off after the Gagner signing though.

You fellers deserve a better GM.

Was in Winnipeg last week for a bit of a break before my GF's dad's funeral service in Emerson down by the border. WTF is going on in WPG? I kind of understand why NHL players don't want to be there? Place is an absolute sh!thole. The city doesn't fix roads, curbs or mow lawns in that town? Where is all the provincial tax money going? Highways are garbage for the most part man it's bloody embarrassing for one of Canada's oldest cities to see all those beautiful buildings close to downtown closed and boarded up. Can some explain WTF is going on there? I was blown away by how big of a dump it was....

And the homeless issues...wow

Let's get rid of Lowry, and then we will have nobody that can win a faceoff.
As I have said in the past, you don't get rid of someone until you have his replacement lined up.
