Thanks Trevor.
As far as Jake Virtanen goes I think there comes a time where you start to groom what you have and concentrate less on "long shots."
Virtanens' numbers speak for themselves
There is one more avenue I feel the Flames should go down.
Noah Hanifin ( I know that I will draw flax for this) is not the stud he is perceived to be which makes him ideal for trade bait.
The playoffs is where you see a players true medal and Hanefin was a liability in the Oilers series.
It is a mystery why Stone has no. contract but in my books he could fill the role of Hanefin for way less money.
Finally you trade Hanefin to a team like Montreal who are weak on defence and strong on forwards for a quality and solid forward like Josh Andersen.
I think getting a quality forward for Hanefin is both doable and with our abundance of defensemen the right move.

You lost me at this:
''It is a mystery why Stone has no. contract but in my books he could fill the role of Hanefin for way less money.

If this was true why would Montreal trade for Hanifin when they could just sign Stone???????

Point well taken. When I mentioned Stone replacing Hanefin it was in the context of our abundance of quality defensemen enhanced by the arrival of Mackenzie Weeger.

I should have been more specific on that point.

Happy hockey is gearing up.

I believe Stone's knees cannot handle an 82-game grind. He is perfect to come in for a couple of games.

So was just reading an article from the Athletic. Supposedly we signed a kid named Evan Bouchard who came out of no where.

The 20-year-old winger is a classic late bloomer, with significant size — he’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 212 pounds — who produced at a better-than-point-per-game rate in the QMJHL last season.

Various amateur scouts polled by The Athletic about Boucher noted that Boucher is an above-average skater, who gets around the ice effectively despite having a choppy, nontraditional skating stride. He’s a good playmaker with a high-velocity shot, but the mechanics on the shot just don’t look particularly clean.

Cool!

For what its worth I agree trading 1 of Hani or Kyli (assuming they sign Weeger) is a calculated risk that should be explored.

Was at the game tonight 3-0 Canucks, Pelletier should of had a couple shorties, Schwindt looks good, Beck had a great 1st period I thought. But Klapko skates well for a big man, going to be fun to see how he does against NHL competition. On D I thought Kuznetsov looked good back there, Jordan also showed flashes.

It's Boucher. Bouchard is the Oilers defenceman. The Flames also didn't sign him. He was invited to the rookie camp. There's pretty much no chance that'll they'll sign him. He's getting a chance to play in front of some western scouts before he goes back to Halifax for the season. He might turn into something, but it's an extreme longshot that he ever becomes an NHL player. A point-per-game player isn't all that impressive in junior hockey when you're 19 since you're playing against mostly children, especially in Quebec where they're not all that concerned about defence.
