“…while Claude Giroux…the definition of a leader.”

No. Just another player wearing a “C” in a bad locker room atmosphere. Blake 2.0.

Good move by Jets. Something had to change in the "room".

Great move! If anything, it’s sends a message to the team and fan base that status quo isn’t acceptable and that everything from leadership group, to ice time and style of play will be different.

This team needed a change but the way Bowness did this, before he even saw how Wheeler interacted with his teammates himself was low class.
I hope Wheeler takes out his disappointment and embarrassment on how this move was handled out on the Jets opponents and has a great season.
It wasn't his fault he was signed to such a crazy contract.
He still is a point per game player that was forced to play way too many minutes every game because the Jets didn't have a coach that stopped doing this.
I hope and believe he has a monster season then quietly leaves this team, on his terms at the trade deadline or the draft. He deserves better.

As much I did not agree with the contract that was given out to Wheeler, this is a good post! I 100% agree with it

He has a 5 team trade list, meaning he has submitted a list of 27 teams that the team would need special permission to engage in a trade with

It means 26 teams they would need special permission, unless the Jets are trading him to Winnipeg then yes, it would then be 27 teams.

What happened to Paul Maurice saying Blake Wheeler was the 'best leader he'd ever seen'?

Then whose fault was it? Only other person you can fault is his agent. I doubt the team starts at these crazy contract numbers. Same situation for Nurse in Edmonton starting this year, stupid overpay, but that is all on the player and their agent, 100%. GM's are stupid, but only for caving in to the player demands.

Maybe it was satire. You know, he was "such a good leader", they stopped listening to the coach.

Strongly disagree here. The only person to blame for a "bad contract" is the GM. If a player like, lets say Travis Boyd in Arizona could get an 8 year contract worth $8m per, why blame him or his agent? Every player should be taking every dollar and year then can possibly get. Nothing is guarunteed. The expectations of a team friendly deal are ridiculous. Sure, some teams buy in, but what if Nathan MacKinnon signs a 1 year, $6m deal next summer just so the Av's can go for one last run with a super team, and he gets a career-ending injury? That $6m is all he will get from now on. Every player should take as much as they can. Everyone points to Toronto and how Matthews and Marner asked for so much, they deserve it. The NHL underpays players so much, they deserve so much more compared to other sports.
