Not sure what's strange about this deal Trevor... he's really not proven anything at the NHL level (11 points in 31 games). To me this contract follows what Tre has done in the past (mang, bennett, kylington etc)

Ruzicka is waiver eligible, but I don't think he clears waivers.

I'm told Ritchie and the Flames have agreed to a 1-year contract, which will be formally signed either today or tomorrow.

Just the unique dollar value. The range of compensation is reasonable.

I agree Ruzicka deserves a shot. The kid has a lot of skills. BUT he needed to work on specific areas of his game. He was inconsistent and was not getting in the dirty areas. This is Sutter's way of developing players. It will work with some, and not with others. One of the things Sutter brought up last year, is that in previous years the young guys did not earn their shot; it was given.

Awesome news about Ruzicka, imo it's the same role he played last year, he'll get switched in and out with Rooney.

Bottom 6 will be very competitive, I expect Lucic to get scratched a lot, Lewis will need maintenance days, Pelletier might not be a lock (would be great if Backlund could mentor him though). Dube got most of his points late in the seasons iirc he's a candidate too for the press-box imo.
These lines a little too obvious: https://www.dailyfaceoff....flames/line-combinations/ And I expect plenty of movement on the wings

Capfriendly shows 22 of 23 roster spots taken, including Pelletier & Valimaki - if they have bad camps they'll get sent down, and that could open up room for Stone and Milano. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flames

I am glad Tre scooped him away from the Oil. But do you think he would play for the Wranglers? I have to think not.

That bottom six is crowded.

I think he probably would if he's sent down because he's not playing well enough to be on the team. Remember, making a waiver claim isn't just a free player. You have to keep that player on the roster, you have to have a free contract slot, and you lose your spot in the waiver line. They're all minor headaches, but probably enough for teams to question whether putting in the claim is worth it.

Playing for the Wranglers isn't nearly as bad as playing for the Heat was.

Yeah, our D is crowded too. Pairings could look like this:
Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Weegar
Zadorov-Tanev
Keep all right-shot on the same side.
I'm not sure what's coming. I'm glad Zary is back at 100%, he looks faster.
I hope we can protect our younger assets and not lose them for nothing.

Sutter was set to play him before the TDL. The unwise trade for Carpenter meant he was going to the farm for the rest of the year. Yes, he needs to prove he belongs this year, but I don't think Sutter had any concerns other than his faceoff %.

I read that Sutter said he liked his game but does not want to stick him on the 4th line. That is what he told the media at least.

Maybe the best option is to stick Ruzicka on Backlund's wing. If they really want to keep Ruzicka around and not give him 4th line minutes, I do not see any other alternatives.

That and slotting in should one of the big three get injured. Kadri misses time here and there.

I think it's just a matter of time until the US bans russians from getting visas too. I'm not sure if a Republican win this fall could lead to implementation and enforcement of a new rule - but the Zadorov contract does carry that risk and we should have pushed for Gudbranson instead. I wouldn't mind seeing Zadorov get traded to improve our forward depth.

This goes out to all the guys over the past few years who opened their big mouths with praise for Putin and Russia, Russia's military. In locker rooms, at parties, sometimes the "water cooler" at work - you know who you are. Same thing with the gullible fools who believed the Crimea annexation "vote". This country never accepted Ukrainian refugees in 2014 onwards. It gives visas to the war criminals' country that attack Ukraine. Pathetic collaborators.

Not sure what your end goal is, or if you have one, but either take fewer drugs or use more tinfoil. What you are doing is not working.

My Ukrainian friend who moved here with his family in 2015 might disagree with your blank statement.

As usual you turn hockey into a political discussion but for once (despite your rhetoric) its a fair question. Current policy by most Western nations bans only certain individual (mostly directly affiliated with Putin's inner circle) or companies with direct ties to the Russian war effort, including energy. It's not unique to hockey. There are professional soccer players on European teams. Hell look at Ovechkin's Insta page, he still has he and Putin as his profile pic. Problem is, unless countries ban Russian's from entering, they have a right to play and unless teams or professional leagues don't allow Russian's to play for their teams, nothing will change. A rare time I actually agree with what your saying (just not how you're saying it) but nothing will happen save an outright ban on Russian's coming here.

Ramble On?

No one is condoning what Putin is doing or how he is going about it but what I will say is that in 2014 Putin did warn the UN, Globalists and NATO that if they continued down that path there would be consequences. Do your research on Zelensky too...he's no hero. And why is Pelosi over in a war zone? Give it some thought. China will go into Taiwan soon as well. It's not like we never knew this stuff was coming. And with Putin's talk of Nukes yesterday it will only escalate. Russian athletes should not be penalized for being Russian. Regardless of Putin's actions. 99% of them have zero affiliation with the guy or his politics.

The next few weeks will be crucial in finding the right " chemistry " for lines and defence pairings, something that Sutter is very good at.

Ultimately it is all about puck possession and balancing players strengths and weaknesses, in order to best achieve consistency throughout the lineup.

Players like Ruzicka will have to find their "fit" with Sutter.

You're the one who made a comment about me supposedly supporting Trump, you forced your pro-gay views here, and continually try to slander/libel me, and you always try to portray me as doing something wrong. And you think you have a right to talk about what's right and wrong after all that?

You should get your head out of the gutter - and keep your "values" to yourself. If you find yourself budding heads with Albertans frequently, you should strongly consider moving out of Alberta, maybe to Toronto or Montreal so you could live with more like minded people and stop harassing Albertans.

PS Your "story" or "claim" about your friend pales in comparison to what my family's doing for them & first hand knowledge of what they're saying and thinking.
