The one basicly uncontrollable factor each season is concussions.

Often with young players chopping at the bit you have a thoroughbred high end player become concussed

Perhaps Reichel will see more ice in Chicago than I originally anticipated at the conclusion of last season.

But along with added strength gained this past summer, comes a motor to fly around the rink and risk injury.

The roster in the next few years should include several newbies who play a hard compete. I don't suppose after a few years Reichel might play a more controlled style?

Who knows?

What's with the baby Hawk's and wrist injuires??

Ian Mitchell is out 6 weeks with a left wrist injury. That’s really tough luck in a kinda make-or-break season for him.

Colton Dach and Paul Ludwinski are both still in concussion protocol after injuries in prospect camp last week.

Regula now should have a leg up as the 3rd RD because of his showing late last year and Mitchell's injury.

Tough break for Mitchell. Figure with the injury and a stint in Rockford to get his game together, it might be the Holidays before he makes an appearance with the Hawks. That's if his game warrants.

Jonathan Toews said it's nice to get settled in and focus on his play instead of all the off-ice stuff. "No more talk."

Of course Mitchell goes down, what tough break for the kid. Luckily I think he will still have his shot but man talk about making it tougher.

Jonathan Toews said he was angry at first about the DeBrincat and Dach trades, but that he's come around and respects and understands what Kyle Davidson is doing.

Toews said Dach still has a lot of upside and "arguably maybe didn't ever quite get his fair shot in Chicago."

I think the Hawks really wanted Nazar, and if he wouldn't have been available at #13, Dach would probably still be a Blackhawk.

I was looking forward to seeing where Mitchell’s game was at, tough break indeed, but hopefully he comes back 100% from his wrist injury, unlike Dach. I was looking forward to watching Mitchell, Vlasic, and Reichel in the pre-season…

Thanks, Zach.
Even with low expectations, the Blackhawks opening camp still brings a spring to my old guy step.
Hoping Mitchell's recovery goes faster than expected.
At training camp, you always hope for someone to perform so well it demands a further look.

Luke Richardson says the Blackhawks' defensive system will be similar to a Box+1.

"We’re looking to kill plays quick... It’s fast defense, it’s hard defense, and that just gives us more energy to play offense instead of chipping the puck out."

What's with the baby Hawk's and wrist injuries??"

If I had to guess it would be the crappier modern gloves which minimised/eliminated wrist protection for increased range of motion.

This happened to me maybe I guess 6 years ago now -doesn't take much of a slash (a tap really) to mess one up. Mind you I was just an idiot just coming back to playing a bit after awhile. When I started a long time ago -I had to take laces out of them (ok -so I could ... if needed - go all Hanson Brothers - and I guess the irony was - that was not anywhere near the player I was ... and it feels hilarious to even think I had my head up my .. that way back then) ...

They had some pretty long panels that went maybe about halfway up your forearm and pretty much nearly met or did meet, your elbow pads).

I had to take to wearing wrist guards -basically lightly armoured wrist sweatbands -to try to make up some of what they no longer put on gloves anymore.

Guess what I am saying is - it is a big risk - wonder if it is something that has contributed to that.

I'd prefer to see the kids all start in Rockford and dominate. Win together at that level like the Cubs High A team just did. Start a winning culture in Rockford and carry it over to the Hawks. Maybe earn call-ups mid-season when players get hurt, then take that NHL experience back to Rockford with them.

Player eval by me on invitee Andre Perrott:

Second year eligible defender. Father had a cup of coffee in the NHL.He has size, a willingness to play with physicality and grit, but also is very good skater who displays puck handling and moving ability. Has thrown his share of big hits while playing with London, but was traded to Windsor at the trade deadline in January 2020. Strong in his positioning in his end where he angles attackers wide with stick and body. Reliable player with improving footwork and short area bursts. He is considered a developmental prospect with good intangibles and work ethic that might lead to success in the higher levels.

If players can play in the NHL they should. It takes typically 2 full years of NHL time regardless of AHL or Junior or European experience to realize their talent.

Outside of the occasional late bloomer there isn't any value in keeping players in the AHL just to keep them in the AHL unless there is a log jam which there isn't. +\- 1 year down there should be enough.

Hockey is incomparable to baseball when it comes to the quality of the minor league.

Just like when the Habs would own the entire Montreal Junior Canadiens and bring them up for the next decade before there was a real universal draft.

I think Davidson wanted another 1st round pick to jump start the rebuild and Dach was the only tradeable asset available to get one. I thought I read he had a Dach deal in place with Montreal if they were able to obtain a top 15 pick. Getting Nazar was the icing on the cake but if he were unavailable KD would have taken his next choice.
