It's true. It’s why companies like The Bank of Nova Scotia, and the Bank of Montreal, have their headquarters where exactly?
- prock

Yet the major railways are headquartered in Montreal and Calgary. What's your point?

DUDE.......as if you didn't vote for scotiabank in the last election, they easily had the best platform.....BMO seemed sketchy to me.
- sensarmy_11

The majority of the population of the rest of the country works for a company that's getting run from Toronto.

I'd bet you're someone from Toronto's little b!tch.

You mean the tiny amount being repaid after the province paid them out for the entire history of them? Don’t expect thanks after supporting the rest of the country for decades.

over 3 billion this year? please send me a cheque for this tiny amount.....

next election I vote in, whether it be municipal or Provincial or whatever I'm totally adding one final candidate to the ballot, and with Prock in my heart and mind I will place a check mark beside Toronto.

You realize the reason transfer payments were initiated right? To keep the Atlantic provinces afloat. They were dirt poor, and everyone was leaving, so Central Canada had to start shelling out money so the place didn't get completely deserted.
- prock

I am aware. All four Atlantic Provinces have a combined population that's smaller than Toronto with little to offer in terms of resources or industry. Offshore oil is putting $ into Newfoundlands coffers but Nova Scotia alone lost 5,000 residents to domestic immigration last year, most of which being young people. In fact it was the first time in that provinces history more people died then were born. Its a tragedy really because its a wonderful place to grow up and its stunningly beautiful.

That all being said the blame lies on the people and the elected representatives they have chosen. Its a very old fashion place with old fashion views and change is lost on the majority of it.

I don't own anybody or walk around with an aura or superiority because I slipped out of a vag in this province or that.

I'm born and raised Nova Scotian. But my career has taken me to many parts of Canada.

The politics are mind numbing. Also they don't hand away young people, they hurl them away with great force. With the exception of Halifax, its essentially a giant retirement home.

wherabouts do you live?

Halifax also got drawn into the sirensong of being a big, powerful super-city. It hasn't worked, growth has stunted since 1996 and the whole thing is a bureaucratic mess. It's charming in spite of itself.

halifax............was posted to a ship here on the coast.

they actually have a huge tax credit (which i believe they may have gotten rid of) to keep students here.

but you're right, beyond the navy, and maybe irving........there isn't much that woudl keep young people here.

Halifax is an awesome city but politically its way to far up its own ass. Still so much fun. I plan on retiring there or in a surrounding area like Hammonds Plains.

Even in Halifax, they don't come anywhere close to harnessing the potential of 1000s of college-educated young people from different places who - often - come from more money than the average Nova Scotian.

They let most of them go elsewhere and take all their money and potential with them.

I'm an industrial Electrician, and the shipyard was the biggest payer in town. It still pails in comparison to what the Oil Giants out here pay with the disparity in the cost of living not being what most make it out to be. 10% difference in sales tax alone.

i think that's part of the reason why the shipyards here were awarded that massive naval shipbulding contract. i expect that will help.......at least for a little while. going to need tradesmen, engineers, financial people, etc.

yupp. Hammonds plains is nice. I wish they would disband the super city to be honest. I don't see it benefiting anyone to have the councillors devote their time to such a diverse set of problems. It's not like it's either "be one big city" or "compete and squabble about every issue"
