If we squeeze our way into 2nd or 3rd, we'd probably be facing Tampa... unless they go on a slide, in which case we'd likely up against Montreal.

until now I was really only focusing on getting into the playoffs...didnt care Wild card whatever.. But since the leafs went Hot and have a good chance at 2 or 3 in the Div, the matchups look much more appealing than Boston or Pitts.

I would like to avoid the wildcard very much now.

so just win 9 home games 13 road left.. Tough job though

It's not even a dig at Ottawa. Miller just has our number on so many nights... while Ottawa's usually gonna give us 2 points.

intentional dig or not it's funny. You'd rather face Ottawa than the worst team in the league.

I don't see how the leafs could end up playing Montreal in the first round.
I see it as either Pittsburgh, Tampa or Boston.

Leafs win 3 more games than Tampa.
Habs win 2 more games than Tampa.

Leafs face Habs.

I only say that because I could go to some games.

its a long shot, I think the only way is of Toronto and Ottawa finish 2/3 in the Division. but not impossible.

I wouldn't mind a Montreal first round match up, that's more likely than Ottawa

- senstroll

I don't see how the leafs and Ottawa could end up being first round opponents. Montreal would also be highly unlikely.

why is Montreal so unlikely? There are three teams within one point of each other for the 2 and 3 spots in the division. If the one that drops to the wild card is the bolts, Leafs face the Habs. That's about as equally likely as the Leafs facing the Bolts or Pittsburgh. It's looking likely those three will be the 2/3 and wildcard spots. Meaning two will play each other, and one will likely face pittsburgh. At this point it's pretty much a toss up which.

I can see the leafs catching the Habs, but Tampa does have two games in hand, and perhaps a more favourable schedule, with a few more home games than the leafs.

I just don't see both the Habs and the leafs passing the Lightning.

The Lightning have a game in hand on the Habs, and two on the leafs.

They have better goaltending than the leafs, allowing about a half a goal less per game than the leafs, and they also may be getting Stamkos back in the line up.

I just don't see the Lightning collapsing, and allowing two teams in their division to pass them, maybe one, but not both.

Only 3 teams in the East have less points in their last 10 games than the Bolts. The Isles, Panthers, and Sabres. Stamkos may make a difference, but one point and a couple of games in hand aren't a big difference at all right now, especially with them playing like crap.

Everything gets reset, to apoint, after the stupid NHL shutdown for the Olympics, and all teams will come back with a fresh start.

Injured tired players, who did not go to the Olympics will be well rested and ready to go.

How their team played three weeks ago will have little bearing on how they finish the season...............unless one or more of their key players are injured at the Olympics and miss enough games to make a difference.

Tampa has an easier schedule remaining than both the leafs and the Habs, with more home games, and having already completed the west coast road trip that both the leafs and Habs have yet to do.

This is why, inky opinion, I don't see both the Habs and leafs passing the lightning in the standings.

Having a couple of games in hand with so about a quarter of the season left to play is an advantage. The team with games in hand can either afford to lose a couple of games, or can put more ground between them and the teams behind them by winning them.

It's not likely the Habs or Leafs pass the Lightening. at this point in the season, point% offers a pretty accurate prediction of where things will end. There may be a bit of shuffling, definitely wouldn't be surprised to see the Leafs pass the Habs, and avoid facing Boston, but that's about it.

That's their best bet, as far as I'm concerned.

If the leafs just play .500 plus P%, that should be enough to get into third spot, providing they also beat Montreal, in regulation in their final two meetings of the season

They probably won't all leave. Toronto has a franchise on the rise, a good cap situation, a city that people don't get bored to death in, and most important of all, a team willing to spend money to retain it's players.

Ottawa has cap space, but none of the other benefits.

Some will leave though. Leafs have a good pool of prospects to draw from that will make some of them expendable.

World's most livable cities

Canadian cities have the highest rankings in the Americas. Vancouver kept the top spot, at number five, followed by Ottawa, toronto and Montreal. San Francisco was the premier urban center in the United States at 27.

most liveable. In other words, really they're saying it's good for the average person. For anybody with money, particularly young millionaire hockey players, they're not choosing Ottawa. Because it sucks.
