stuff happened all the time in pacific rim. first thing in the movie is a robot punching a (frank)ing monster. then you get further into the movie and robots punch a bunch monsters.

then a robot uses shipping containers as brass knuckles and then a tanker ship as a baseball bat and then uses a sword and then a nuke

in rogue one it opens with the empire landing 500 meters away in a muddy field from Mads Mikkelson, then they walk across the field so he can threaten him, giving his family tons of time to run away and hide.

then literally (frank) all happens but a bunch of disjointed action scenes with characters you don't have any reason to root for, lame ass dialogue "its a rebellion. I rebel" "don't choke on your aspirations"

then a bunch of random people who don't like each other decide to work together because its rainy

then they have a round table discussion with half the supporting cast of Sherlock about "do we fight or just hide" before chipmunk girl says "rebellions are built on hope. a new hope you could say"

and then everyone starts (frank)ing dying and thats radical!

although it makes no sense to use ATAT's on the empire's base of operations to fight a small guerilla force. giant non precision attack robots is probably not the best way to handle like 20 dudes scattered across your information archive planet

then vader shows up and murders all the boring hippies

Its more than watchable, its a fun, well made, genuine good movie. Establishes a universe, and plays within the rules of that universe. You're given characters that at least have some dimension to them. A world you can understand.

It has Idris Elba! Ron Pearlman! A relatively cute Asian girl! Sons of Anarchy man!

Rogue One relies on nostalgia imagery and assuming you just know like 60% of Star Wars or half of it don't make no sense. If you're going in cold, you have no reason to understand why the empire is bad, or that they are bad, beyond the obvious Nazi influence in costume design. It isn't until like halfway through the movie you see them being evil.

Everyone just says "we have to stop them"! why? What are they going to do? Unleash Darth Vader? Oh they have a giant space station. its a weapon.

It's also boring and has failures for characters. accent man didn't have a single interesting part of his character until he tries to kill Mads Mikkelson and he says like "i've lost things in this war too" like oh okay! Because up until now the only thing we've seen you do is complain and kill your informant in cold blood.

lady girl couldn't give a care about her parents. says so. but then magically she's like "OH MY GOD MY POPS ITS SO TRAGIC I'LL DO ANYTHING NOW" when according to the story Forrest Whitaker was more of a dad to her, but when he died she just brushed it off.

also, its such a stilted movie. characters walking and talking, dumping exposition and lame lines that I guess are supposed to be character development. ACTION SCENE OF PEOPLE DOING ACTION STUFF. characters walking and talking, dumping exposition and lame lines that I guess are supposed to be character development. ACTION SCENE OF PEOPLE DOING ACTION STUFF. characters walking and talking, dumping exposition and lame lines that I guess are supposed to be character development. ACTION SCENE OF PEOPLE DOING ACTION STUFF. vader kills everyone

you can use action scenes to develop a character's character and not just solely to show they know how to do a shoot bangs. in 4-6, during the action scenes you get to see Luke change from no-nothing guy to jedi and his confidence visibly grows, and he comments on his growth during a fight as well. you get to see that Leaia isn't just a damsel in distress, she can use a gun too and has a no BS attitude. you get a bit into Han and Chewy quipping and having quibbles during gun fights.

same thing in the marvel movies. during a fight scene tony stark is cracking dry humour, captain america is still letting the world know he's a boy scout, hulk has the moments of in-between monster and man, dr strange is using his brain and knowledge

in rogue one its just a bunch of guys shooting guns until they're done and can speak boring ass lines again. "i am capable. i shot the gun." "i know how to use gun. i am tortured man"

and seriously, asian stick man was lame. Just how awful is the Storm trooper armour that getting a boop on the kidney KOs or kills them from a (frank)ing metal stick. not a laser stick, not a light sabre, not a gun, not some anti-jedi/storm trooper weapon. a (frank)ing walking stick.
