All Im saying is it may not be half, but if the Leafs dont have any plans to resign Marner, then theyll for sure have to retain something on that contract to move it. - aecliptic
Utah will look to make a splash and they have a million draft picks to send to the leafs. Less pressure for Marner to just collect money and they won’t need to retain. Maybe send them Durzi and a first. I think Marner would embrace getting the hell out of Toronto
Just watching the leafs, thier D corp is really weak and they can’t move the puck very well unless it’s Rielly |

Again, you need Marner's approval for the trade. Does he want to go to a team thats moving to a new city, who is not even in the realm of discussion for the playoffs, with no defense, no goaltending and a bunch of recently drafted young kids.
Highly doubt it.
I think its gonna depend on how aggressive this new ownership is to developing a team in their 1st year in Utah. |

I just edited. I think he’d love to leave Toronto. Why not Utah? They actually have some good pieces there and he would be the man |

On offense yes ...on defense, the entire D are free agents, and the goaltending sucks. Its almost a spitting image of Toronto without AM34.

I just don’t think Marner likes the pressure up there. They had a front page newspaper this week of him in silhouette saying missing in action or something to that effect, invisible man, etc
Utah would be all lovey dovey for a couple years anyway. That owner seems to be gung ho active out of the gate |

If there is ever a point during the 2024-25 season that Toronto is paying Mitch Marner 5.5 million to play for the New York Rangers I’d be quite surprised |

Its Toronto, of course theyre going to be critical of him. It would be no different in markets like MTL, BOS, NY, DET, CHI, LA, MIN. Would it make sense? Sure. But Im sure he still wants to be in a competitive market, Im not sure a 26yo superstar in the prime of his career wants to go to a team thats essentially rebuilding and figuring out their identity, in a new city.
If it happens, it happens at the deadline, and ownership would have to show not only to him but the league in general that they are serious about what they're trying to do there. |

You’ve got my wheels turning again
Brock Nelson and Varly for Marner… where’s chiefs???
Only because you figure, assuming both teams get bounced next week, they’ll be looking for shakeups |

That's a good team who would be interested I think, but they'd never move marner for those 2 guys. They'd probably start by thinking about Dobson. That's the kind of move the leafa need to make if they're moving marner, a really good top 2 Dman. |

The problem for the leafs is the arena/ticket prices. Pagnotta was saying “fans” get shut out of the building and it’s all corporate people buying the seats. Very quiet arena during games so they get no energy from their crowds. The ones out side watching on the big screen are the ones who should be inside |

Chicago seems less likely than Islanders. Maybe you could convince marner to go there and be a vet on that rebuild, but who do the hawks have that could help leafs win now? Seth jones or korchinski? Seems like a stretch. |

Isles wouldnt trade Dobson imo. The leafs need quantity over quality
For arguments sake
Nelson
Pelech Romonov or Pulock
Varly (if they need a goalie which is debatable)
Something like that

Ya they have a corporate culture problem there, which honestly is probably a bigger factor in their overall team culture than we think. Lower bowl tickets are like 500-1,000 bucks from what I've heard, so it's just full of rich elites and not the actual hardcore fans. That seems like a problem to me, and if their corporate leadership doesn't think so and is content to keep raking in the cash at the expense of atmosphere that could give the team a huge lift, that's a problem for the leafs franchise. |

Ya dobson is hard to see happening, but you never know. Could be 2 teams that are in need of a big shakeup that make sense to work together. The deal kind of makes sense for each team, imo. Treliving also made the tkachuk for huberdeau deal a couple of years ago.
The leafs would never trade for varlamov, sorry dude. He's not an upgrade over Samsonov or Woll. Teams don't value goaltenders that much anymore either, unless they are legit studs like Shesty, Hellebuyck, Demko, etc. |

idk who else has the athletic, but hey cannot stop writing articles about him. the comment sections are insane. - NYRangers1124
And 12 in a row !! Pretty insane for a guy that plays >5 mins a game |

I mentioned Varly because the isles would need to dump his salary since they have Sorokin extension kicking in and Marner makes more than anyone in the trade. Varly definitely better then Samsonov imo
For Marner ideally for them, they’d need a forward and D. 100% defensman in the deal without a doubt |

Rempe in a series vs the canes scares me, their PP is about as good as ours. Only say this because they’re (refs) looking to call him for EVERYTHING, legal or illegal it doesn’t even matter
I think Rempe comes out next series and plays if things get chippy at some point. Caps only card to play is mucking it up thus why he’s playing. |
