Starting tomorrow it will be nothing but rumors in these parts....but today is a day of NHL Royalty.
I am kind of amazed at how this series is getting the accolades it is receiving.
"The Best Final in 84 Years," "The Greatest Cup Final in recent memory," "A Final for the Ages."....... Is this truly merited?
I am not saying I am not loving this series. I do feel we are seeing the beginning of the next wave of great NHL teams taking over. The Lightning/Penguins era is done. This is the time of Vegas, Florida, Edmonton, and others.....
And the drama of maybe the best playoff performance ever by McDavid... leading his team back from the dead is great TV. No question....we love underdogs, and comebacks. Miracles...
But the individual games themselves in this series don't quite stack up for me... We have yet to see the defining game of this series....i think because these team haven't really played perfect hockey at the same time in the same game....maybe tonight is that night. The night we see several lead changes, and a long OT game...best on best.
There is one thing I love about the praise this series is getting...The fact that for years now we have heard that the Cup Final is only going to be successful if the Rangers, Leafs, Hawks, or Canadiens are battling...I mean would Edmonton v Florida ever have been the Game of the Week before now?
What we are seeing here is what I have always felt about our great sport. We want to see great hockey with drama and hard work more than we care about market shares....The rating for tonight will be through the roof...And it will be for an Oilers/Panthers game...and that is pretty damn cool.
