With the first round in the books, day two of the NHL Draft got underway in Pittsburgh on Saturday, as teams made their selections from rounds two through seven.

2nd round (35th overall) - Matt Finn (D) - Guelph, OHL
After selecting Morgan Rielly fifth overall on Friday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs went back to the blue line for their next pick, taking defenceman Matt Finn of the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm with the 35th overall selection.

Finn, a 6-foot, 197-pound defenceman with a left-hand shot, had a breakout season in 2011-12 with the Storm. The Toronto, Ontario native leading all defencemen on the team and ranked sixth among blue liners in the OHL with ten goals and 38 assists for 48 points in 61 games.

NHL Central Scouting ranked Finn 16th overall in their final June rankings and he was believed to be one of the best players available when the second round began. Finn is a prototypical two-way defenceman who doesn't play a flashy game, but makes excellent decisions with the puck. He quarterbacked the power play with the Storm while also recording time on the penalty kill. Finn has good skating abilities and is positionally sound while possessing a good hockey IQ. Finn also happens to be a cousin of former Leaf defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo, who was drafted 17th overall by Toronto during the 2001 NHL Draft.

Finn expressed his joy at being selected by the Leafs, explaining that they were the team he idolized growing up and that he was looking forward to the challenge of working his way through the organization's defensive depth.

"It's unbelieveable," Finn said of being drafted by the Leafs. "For me it's a dream come true. It's my hometown crowd and to be selected in Toronto, growing up in Toronto and watching them my entire life, it's something else."

"I've gotta work. That's just all it is. I've just got to work. And if it's next year, two years or five years down the road, my dream is to play in the NHL. I know they are deep on defence and it's something I've got to work for."

Monster Moved to Winnipeg
While waiting in between picks from rounds three to five, the Leafs also got in on the trade action, sending Jonas Gustavsson's rights to the Winnipeg Jets for a conditional 7th round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

The pick is conditional on if the Jets can sign the pending unrestricted free agent Gustavsson to a contract before July 1st when the free agency window opens. The Monster's run in Toronto comes to an unspectacular end after posting a 17-17-4 record with a 2.92 goals-against average and .902 save percentage during the 2011-12 season. The 27-year old Swedish netminder is coming off a two-year, $2.7 million contract.

5th round (126th overall) - Dominic Toninato (C) - Duluth East, High-MN
After sitting without a pick in rounds three and four, the Leafs got back in on the draft in the fifth round, selecting 6-foot, 165-pound centreman Dominic Toninato.

Toninato hails from Duluth, Minnesota and plays for Duluth East in the Minnesota High School system. The centreman with a left-hand shot put up great numbers in 2011-12 for his high school, registering 27 goals and 34 assists for 61 points in 25 games played.

The Leafs' fifth-round pick is committed to the Fargo Force of the USHL next season, and then will return home to play for the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the NCAA. The scouting report on Toninato is that he is a two-way centreman with good vision and a nose for the net while continuing to improve each year.

Toninato revealed that despite the Leafs being one of the most storied teams in the league, he did not know much about the Blue and White or their general manager Brian Burke.

"Honestly I don't know much about them," Toninato said of his new team. "But I know they're a great organization and I'm very excited to be a part of it."

"Not much." he added with a laugh when asked about Burke.

6th round (156th overall) - Connor Brown (RW) - Erie, OHL
6th round (157th overall) - Ryan Rupert (C) - London, OHL

In the sixth round of the NHL Draft, Burke and his scouts selected two of Leafs prospect Greg McKegg's former teammates in Connor Brown and Ryan Rupert.

Brown is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound winger, who lead the Ontario Hockey League's Erie Otters in scoring, recording 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 68 games. The Toronto native had a rough go of things with the Otters last season, as the team won just ten games and Brown posted a league-worst plus/minus rating of minus-72 on a team that allowed a league-worst 335 goals in 68 games. Brown is talented offensively and has good skating skills but will need to improve upon his defensive game.

Just one pick later, the Leafs stayed in the OHL's Midwest Division, selecting centreman Ryan Rupert of the London Knights.

In 63 games played alongside his twin brother Matt in London last season, Ryan recorded 17 goals and 31 assists for 48 points in 63 games played. The 5-foot-9, 186-pound centreman played extremely well for the Knights in the post-season, registering 15 points (9G, 6A) in 19 games played. Rupert also scored two goals in four games during the Memorial Cup, registering the only Knights goal in their 2-1 championship game loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Rupert is a dynamic player who along with his twin brother Matt, Knights fans refer to as the Hanson Brothers for their gritty play. He is undersized at 5-foot-9 but plays the role of an agitator quite well, playing a defensively responsible game while also showing some offensive talent on a Knights team that puts an emphasis on defence.

7th Round (209th overall) - Viktor Loov (D) - Sodertalje, Sweden
While all of the Leafs' previous five picks in the 2012 NHL Draft were 18-year olds, the organization went a bit older with their final selection, taking 19-year old Swedish defenceman Viktor Loov with the 209th overall pick.

Loov, a 6-foot-1, 187-pound defenceman, registered three goals and three assists with 42 penalty minutes in 50 games played with Sodertalje SK of the Swedish Elitersen league.

Of the six players the Maple Leafs selected during the 2012 NHL Draft, the team went with three defencemen, two centremen and one winger. Among the nationalities selected, there were four Canadians, one American and one Swede added to the team's system. Of the four Canadians drafted, three hail from Ontario.
