Can Colin White fill the #2C role as early as next year? |

Matt Duchene is, for at least the time being (until a contract extension is signed) the #1 centre for the Ottawa Senators, but the trade deadline deal of Derick Brassard left a gaping hole in the top 6 that was temporarily filled by Jean-Gabriel Pageau and a little bit of Zack Smith.
If the Senators are going to give Guy Boucher a chance to keep his job until at least the end of the season, he is going to have to find a suitable option on the second line.
I give you Colin White.
But, given the way they used him in his stints in Ottawa, you have to question whether or not the Senators see him as a centre. White took just 60 face-offs in 21 NHL games, so he did see some time in the middle but was primarily used as a winger.
I ask the question because as I write this, White is playing centre for Team USA, and not down the lineup but playing between Patrick Kane and Johnny Gaudreau.
Maybe White can use this opportunity to turn some heads, including those of his own franchise and he gets some confidence. His season got off to a tough start with a broken arm as a result of a shot block in the pre-season, and it never really seemed to get back on the rails either in Belleville or Ottawa.
He had just 6 points in his Ottawa stints, and just 27 points in 47 games in Belleville. He needs a good tournament and a good summer to get back on the path that the Senators and their fans expected from him heading into this past season.
