Another day, another KHL free agent signs in the NHL. (Hopefully this contract won't be voided as it was the case for Grigorenko.
On Tuesday Agent Dan Milstein announced that his client has signed an NHL contract with the Montreal Canadiens.
Per team release: Demchenko has signed a one-year entry-level deal worth $700,000.
At 26 years of age Demchenko can be considered a KHL veteran. At 6'1'' and 165lbs you can't call him big, but he outweighs that with his positioning and athleticism in the net. He plays a calm and steady game. A really good all-around goalie but he will have to improve his game to play in the NHL. He will have to work on his glove-side as that seems to be the weakness for him.
I don't see him as a future/starting goalie in the NHL but a reliable backup? I don't see why not.
He has carried a horrible Traktor team on his back for two seasons, after that the team waived him and eventually he ended up being traded to the Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
