If you missed it yesterday’s post took a look at the tasks ahead of Yzerman and Co regarding Raymond and Seider. For anyone interested, a Bally’s update was at the tail end of the write up.

Pro Hockey Rumors posted a mock draft and, in line with the majority of drafts we’ve covered, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard was the presumptive pick for Detroit at #15. We are getting close to seeing if this will pan out or not. Yzerman has had talks regarding moving up or down in the draft but nothing concrete. That was addressed in his last press conference.

Kaapo Kakko signed a one year 2.4m contract with New York earlier in the post season. With that tag and length, it felt like a “prove it or move it” deal. Friedman wonders if this is actually a way to make a trade more tenable with cost control for the coming year. Opinion only, Kakko feels like a player Detroit should take a look at. For the reasons mentioned, along with age and potential. No idea what NYR would want for the forward. Oddly, Lafreniere isn’t going to work on an extension this summer. This could be a “wait and see” as to what the Salary Cap will look like for the 25/26 season.

In continuing down the trade path, Rutger McGroarty is looking to be moved as he enters another season at Michigan and the Jets seem to be on board with the idea. H2 was first in the comments to talk about wanting to see Detroit jump on this. As far as a trade goes, especially one with a lack of control, this could be sticky territory. The Collegiate route is one where prospects can become free agents and write their own ticket. We’ll see where this ends up.

Finally, as thoughts about the upcoming season loom, there is a fairly divisive item (amongst the fan base) that should be touched upon. It feels like a good time to finally put #91 up in the rafters. Fedorov’s departure from Detroit still has fans feeling sour, but his contributions to Detroit’s success along with just being a phenomenal player have to override that at some point. Patrick Roy found his way back into Montreal’s good graces, and we have the video of a pretty nasty exchange.

There are “absolutely no, not ever” Fans along with “This should already be done” fans and a middle group who can be swayed one way or the other. I’d like to see Fedorov on LCA ice watching his number ascend into the fold. Regardless of the ending, it seems overdue and earned. It feels like this is a powder keg but one worth sitting on. As always, let me know your thoughts and thank you to everyone who stopped by.
