Yesterday was a tough day in saying goodbye. It is impossible to quantify how hard people work to make a place like Hockeybuzz go. I’m blessed and grateful to be a part of it.

Tomorrow see Detroit hitting the road to Chicago. We remember last year’s magical moments by Patrick Kane and the lines seem to reflect the hope that he goes off on a tear. The top line is Debrincat/Larkin/Kane. In one way this makes a lot more sense in having a left shot and right shot on the wings (though both on their off side) but in another it feels like Raymond should be up on top. Instead you have Copp/Compher/Raymond on line 2. Copp and Compher are very good defensive minded forwards, and it feels like a missed opportunity. I’d like to see Kasper with Raymond and Tarasenko on the second line (or Debrincat instead of Raymond).

Copp and Compher have both contributed to offense, there’s no doubt. Copp has 4 goals, Compher has 3. Call it “gut feeling” but Kasper drives the net, skates hard and it feels like he’s knocking on the door. The 3rd line of Berggren/Kasper/Tarasenko could be the “surprise line”. Berggren is getting looks, just brutal on finishing. Tarasenko has defensive ability that could help a breakout with Berggren and Kasper. They just need to finish and get on the board.

Chicago is in rebuild mode but have an exceptional player in Bedard whose goals are off to a slower start but is a near point per game player in his sophomore season. Bertuzzi and Athanasiou will see some familiar faces and likely dinner out with some of the boys to catch up.

Detroit needs to bank points wherever they can get them. Kasper’s hold on a spot with Motte as a healthy scratch seems to reinforce some confidence that the club is seeing good things in the center. A road trip can be a solidifying opportunity or a disaster. The team has serious defensive issues and shots on goal differential remains an issue.

Let me know your thoughts on the team sticking with Kasper and what you think will happen on the ice in Chicago tomorrow.
