Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a good time. I know who didn’t have a good time. Me! As I got back to Ottawa on the 30th because my parents had the flu and we didn’t want to get sick. I still have my Semi Finals 1 tickets, yet I don’t think it will be the game I was hoping for. Canada failed to do…”Mamba” Hockey, whatever the hell that is Dave Cameron? The USA were able to draw Canada into a game of emotion that lead to more penalties than you can imagine. The Americans were clinical and were able to goad the Red Leafs into multiple bad penalties and then crap talk them into…doing more. I thought seeing Latvia have a moment was annoying as a Canadian, but this was the US showing they can execute.

I think they were the favourite going in, but Canada has been pretty mediocre. They can’t get to the net and they are shooting like it’s juniors and the goalie is hopefully a 5’9 guy from the last place team in your league.

Easton Cowan has been…dreadful. Numbers do not make a player, but play does. If you are having trouble putting the points on the board, you can ingratiate yourself with other aspects of the game. Cowan has not been the worst Canadian forward…but he’s probably the 3rd or 4th. If you want to be a rat, you can do so, if you can’t catch a break, you’re a liability. Cowan seems to be brain dead and is making every poor decision. It’s not just the penalties and trying to be Brad Marchand without the whistle taken away, it’s just not knowing where your teammates are.

I’ve seen him play and dominate the OHL in person. This is the worst I’ve seen him play. This includes his draft season when I saw him 2 times when London came to Ottawa. Lost, angry and stupid. I feel like he has much more to give, but he might need to be sat down and talked to. My personal hope is that this is kind of like Sam Bennett’s evolution who also had a hard time adjusting to not being able to do whatever they wanted on the ice and needed to figure out his game.

Who knows? Cowan goes on to score 6 goals and wins the MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!? Not likely, but this has been really poor for him and the fanbase.

Leafs WIN!

The Leafs beat the Islanders. I’m shocked too. The Isles love just taking the wind out of the sails of the Leafs. Tavares got the dagger and continues to play great. Matthews is toasted…lame. Marner and Nylander will need to carry this team in offense and I feel like they can.

I was pretty happy to see Lorentz score a goal, even if it was a little cheeky. He has been a good player for the Leafs and cold for most months…like any 4th liner. Personally, I like that they went out and got a big hard working winger that isn’t a mess. If you look up 4th liner on Wikipedia, he would likely be the photo.

I’m off to go watch Nosferatu at Carling to make sure the Holidays have some spoopy nonsense.

I hope everybody had a great New Years Eve and will have a fun time in 2025.
