There has been some good back and forth
On the last entry regarding NIL, NCAA prospects and the new issues that teams will be facing. A big thanks to DCZ28 for a great contribution in the comments. Please take a look at the article if you get a chance. A couple of Detroit prospects have been included in a new clothing campaign featuring MSU branded clothing (organization donates proceeds to charity) as well as a link to an actual NIL store for the university where you can directly support a player with your purchases.
Austin Watson has been called up for Detroit’s final stretch under emergency conditions, as reported by PHR. Waiting to hear if anyone is a game time decision of if this is insurance. Watson has been incredibly patient spending time and contributing in Grand Rapids and playing whatever role is put in front of him. His attitude has been professional and as was suggested by some of our Grand Rapids contingent, it’s hard not to feel that Watson hasn’t outworked Detroit regulars in the bottom 6 and should have the spot.
Detroit and New York are both 6 points behind Montreal with the Wings having a game in hand over both. Tonight’s contest is, essentially, a 4 point night as Detroit faces Montreal and a win makes it another race to the end. New York’s loss last night has them with 5 games remaining and pushed Detroit as the top team outside of the wild card spot.
Reality, the push is uphill and far too reminiscent of last year. In Sisyphus fashion some fans are waiting for the boulder to split and make its final declension to the bottom of the mountain in what feels like an eternal punishment. A regulation win tonight closes the gap to 4 points with a game in hand. A 3 point game is less than ideal regardless of the result.
As many of you have prepared for the summer, are looking at the draft and talking about next year’s team, I had to take a minute to send a huge “thank you”. This entry is actually #1,402 in what has been an incredible opportunity. More and more I appreciate everyone who stops by and the chance to blog about my home town team. Thank you all, and to be sure there will be post game thoughts and summary coming.
