The Trois-Rivieres Lions wrapped up a nine-game homestand with a triple header against the Worcester Railers (New York Islanders) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Lions opened the scoring early into the contest when defenseman Brycen Martin went top corner glove side for the goal from the slot. It was 1-1 to start the third period when Anthony Beauregard beat the goalie glove on the opening shift of the frame. Nicolas Guay ended any hope of a comeback with 2:32 remaining by completing a one-timer goal from the faceoff dot.
“We scouted them well since it had been a long time since we played them. We played in our structure and we didn’t give up many chances, but I think we can be better. We were just good enough to win. The goal we gave up, I think Luke [Cavallin] would like to see again. Other than that, we didn’t generate much offensively. We can be better defensively. It was a win and we did what we had to do to win it,” coach and general manager Ron Choules said.
The Railers led 1-0 midway through the second period when the Lions answered back with three goals in 5:37. First, Anthony Beauregard scored his 100th career ECHL goal by knocking in a bouncing puck from the blue paint. Nicolas Guay followed up with a shot from the slot that found its way in the back of the net and Beauregard obtained his second of the period with less than one second remaining. Worcester forced overtime with two goals, including one on the power play during the third period. The visitors ended up victorious with the only successful shootout attempt.
Isaac Dufort opened the scoring in the first period with a shot from the slot. The Lions doubled their lead before the intermission when Tyler Hylland used the space in front of him and skated towards the net and shot the puck from the top of the faceoff circle for a shorthanded goal. The Railers got on the board in the second period with a goalie while killing an infraction. The visitors were shooting from all cylinders and Luke Cavallin stood on his head to prevent any further damage, and finished the contest with 45 saves. Beauregard sealed the win with an empty netter.
