The Canucks lost a contested game to the Cup-contending Stars on Sunday night 4-1. The team’s anemic offense means they have to keep the other team off the scoreboard to edge out some victories… and they played that part pretty well considering. The limited opportunities, shots, and blanked the Stars on the PP. However, it wasn’t enough as the Canucks’ top forwards were pretty MIA on the night. Over the last two months, they are the lowest-scoring team in the league, averaging 2.17 goals per game. If you missed it, here are your highlights:

“It's obviously not ideal,” Dakota Joshua said of not potting more than one goal, “but that's the group we have and we know that. It would be nice to get a few more (goals) every night. But regardless, we've got to find a way to be on the right side if it's going to be low scoring.

“We didn't make that many mistakes either, but they made less than us. There's just no real weakness to their team.”

“[The game] didn’t get away from us,” said Tocchet. “It was a 2-1 game and we had a power play and some opportunities and hit the crossbar, but just didn’t have enough. There were a couple of rebounds where I wish we were hungrier, and with inside position, there could have been a tap-in.”

“We’re in the thick of the race and we need some desperation,” added Tocchet. “I liked the effort of a lot lof guys tonight and we were right there. You have go feel comfortable in tight games and good teams have a comfort level. But you need cushion, you need some goals.

“Our power play (0-for-2, three shots) needs to give us some oomph.”

“Disappointing result, especially at home,” said Lankinen. “We’ve got to bring a little bit more and we were probably unlucky not to score more than one goal. We’ve got to keep building. Take what was good and learn to get better. The defence has been good all year and we didn’t give them much.

“It’s a small margin game this time of year. We’ve got to make sure we do the right things next game. I’ve got to stop every puck and do what I can.”

The team needs Hughes back, and soon. They play Montreal next on Tuesday, though with Quinn not skating much over the weekend, it’s pretty questionable when he’s able to come back.

Til then.
