The Leafs made a couple of key moves on Friday. Scott Laughton and Brandon Carlo. Both deals cost the Leafs first round picks and players. However the Leafs had little cap space and Philly retained 50% of Laughton.
Laughton has 11 goals on the season, 4 of which came in the same game (Dec 12 vs DET). He's the only player with a four goal game this season.
Marchand going to the Panthers is definitely not what Leafs land needed to see. Marchand and Tkachuk come playoff time will be an interesting development for teams in the east.
I saw that the Leafs were looking to add Brayden Schenn and Ryan O'Reilly (again). Those deals obviously didn't happen so they turned their sites to a local Toronto kid in Laughton. Carlo and Laughton are both under contract next season. They're not exactly rentals.
Leafs with Colorado native Carlo are at the Avalanche tonight. Avs have won 4 straight, all at home, outscoring opponent 21-7. MacKinnon (98P) is on the verge of his third straight 100 point season. Only Peter Stastny has 3 straight (6) seasons with 100 points or more. MacKinnon He has 4 goals and 7 assists during the Colorado win streak. He also sits 3 points shy of 1,000 for his career.
Leafs have managed only two goals in each of their last two games (0-1-1). Matthews has an 11 game point streak (3G, 12A).
First meeting of the season between the teams. Colorado and Toronto haven't met in over a year (Feb 24/24). Leafs with a win in Denver.
Toronto is 9-0-3 in their last 12 games at Avalanche. Last losing in regulation on the mile high city Jan 17/2006.
I will be back tomorrow to talk about the game and look ahead to Utah (flying Elvis's) Monday night.
