So, no turmoil in Leafs land as we head to the playoffs.
Toronto tried to trade Mitch Marner and he blocked the move. Leafs asked him to waive his no trade clause so he could be shipped to Carolina in a deal for Rantanen. Toronto and Rantanen apparently had agreed on an eight year contract. When Marner wouldn't waive, Rantanen dealt to Dallas.
Leafs management aren't happy with how contract extension talks have gone with Marner's agent Darren Ferris. How will those talks go now?? Marner will want Rantanen money no doubt, or maybe more. Toronto also has to do something with Tavares on an extension. Lucky the cap is going up by $7.5M next season.
Leafs are lucky that they have time to sign both before the end of the season. And I'm sure an 8 year deal is intriguing to Marner at max $'s.
Tavares will be 35 when next season starts, so a three year deal I think max for him.Marner turns 28 in two months, so yeah, an 8 year deal should be on the table if the Leafs decide to put it on the table. With what they were willing to give Rantanen, Marner use that as leveridge.
On the ice, Leafs did it again last night, for the third time in last 4 games they blew a 2 goal lead. Toronto in a bit of a slump 0-2-1 last 3 games.
Toronto got the most out of Brandon Carlo last night, he lead the team in time on ice. Laughton played under 12 minutes, was a -2 with no shots on net.
Monday morning I will tee up the Leafs and the Flying Elvis's, Utah Chapter.
